Camp Fire Animal Relief Fund

$26,625 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 503 people in 1 month
This is a general aid animal relief fund that will go directly to the animal shelters and local animal rescues (wild and domestic, large and small) of Paradise, California, and surrounding areas that have been impacted by the Camp Fire as they search for, rescue, treat medically, and shelter the animals who have been evacuated, injured, and/or left behind during these horrific fires.

Who you are directly helping:

1. North Valley Animal Disaster Group in Chico, CA (NVADG)
**Currently providing aid at three separate satellite shelters for large and small animals. Donate to them directly here!**

2. Paradise Animal Shelter Helpers (PASH)
(Here is their Facebook page.)

3. Paradise Animal Control and Shelter (per latest reports on 11/12/18 it has burned down.)
11/13/18--**VCA Valley Oak Veterinary Center is currently sheltering and treating animal burn victims and sending others to additional clinics at UC Davis Veterinary Medicine and Butte Oroville Veterinary Hospital for burn treatment. All unclaimed/stray animals who are receiving treatment are having it funded by the county's Paradise Animal Control and Shelter.**

4. Fieldhaven Feline Center in Lincoln, CA
**As of 11/12/18 they are receiving overflow of NVADG's cats brought in for shelter and 24-hour care at Sutter County Sheriff posse hall.** (This is their Facebook page with continual updates.)

5. TOPCats on the Ridge in Paradise, CA
**As of 11/14/18, this organization that cares for the homeless, abandoned, and feral cats of Paradise, CA has been displaced due to the fires. Once they are permitted beyond the fire line, they will immediately return to the colonies they care for and search for cats that need immediate assistance, treatment, and rescue, funding it all from donations.

6. Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation in Chico, CA
**This organization headed by Sandy Doolittle is receiving emergency calls for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation due to the Camp Fire. (This is their Facebook page.) They are dedicated solely to wildlife rescue and have been inundated with calls to help injured wildlife.
SPECIAL UPDATE FOR WILDLIFE RELIEF AS OF 11/18/18: If you would like to send funds directly to Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation, checks can be sent to the P.O. box of founder Sandy Doolittle:
Sandy Doolittle
236 W. East Avenue
Suite A #257
Chico, CA 95926
USA

**Additional domestic animal rescues and wildlife relief/rehabilitation efforts may directly receive support as the fundraiser continues.  All funds will go DIRECTLY to the care and treatment of animals that have been impacted by these fires in the coming weeks.**

Who I am and why you should donate to this fundraiser:
My name is Ashley Rachel Carlson, and I am an author and avid animal lover in Phoenix, Arizona. An owner of four pets and a regular animal foster parent and volunteer through Arizona Animal Welfare League, I am very familiar with shelter efforts and how devastating it can be for these animals, wild and domesticated, to be displaced and injured by natural disasters such as the Camp Fire. Please feel free to contact me with suggestions on how to better serve the Paradise, California animal community so that we can provide relief and recovery together!
I started this campaign on 11/10/18 because I desperately wanted to begin assembling relief for the innocent animals affected by the Camp Fire. Please consider donating today--every single cent from now until the goal is surpassed (hopefully!) will go toward animal relief and aid in the coming weeks and months as Paradise, CA and surrounding areas rehabilitate and recover.

Update on Camp Fire animal relief 11/26/18:

It's been two and a half weeks since the Camp Fire ravaged Paradise, CA and surrounding areas, but the need for treatment and recovery for animal and human residents alike is still enormous.
I received an email from the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) yesterday with this message:

"Two weeks ago this all began . . . the most destructive wildfire in California history.
- Our phone operators and data entry personnel have worked virtually non-stop.
-The Evacuation Teams have rescued over a thousand animals, and everyday feed and water animals behind the fire lines.
-Our fabulous Shelter Teams continue to provide excellent hands-on care to almost 2000 animals at two small animal shelters, and the large animal shelter.
-And we have tremendous supporters that have supplied the resources to support our efforts from day one and into the future.
Our message is that we will continue to run evacuation and sheltering-in-place operations until residents are able to return to their homes. We will gradually consolidate the sheltering operations and do our best to reunite every animal with its owner. That is our duty.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOUR SUPPORT! YOU ARE AMAZING!
With sincere appreciation,
John Maretti, NVADG President, and the entire NVADG Board of Directors"

Additionally, I saw a video today of a man who'd gone back into Paradise to rescue an injured cat who'd been hiding under a scorched car:
https://www.sacbee.com/news/state/california/fires/article221896285.html
She had suffered injuries and was dehydrated and likely starving. I don't know about her whereabouts now, but am confident she's been taken to a vet clinic or shelter for treatment.

It's important that we do not forget these animals and people who still have to recuperate from this horrendous event. While the worst might be over in terms of immediate danger, Paradise, CA and all those who resided there are going to be recovering for a LONG, long time. Thank you to all who donated to this campaign, shared, and continue to support it in various ways.

Update on Camp Fire Animal Relief 11/23/18:
After reviewing articles on the needs of Paradise, CA in the wake of the Camp Fire (especially this one from the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2018/11/17/surviving-camp-fire-was-hard-enough-now-these-animals-have-find-their-humans/?utm_term=.69472d832ad2), the need for care and support for Paradise's cats--domesticated and feral--has become extremely apparent.
Out of all of the animals being treated for burns, smoke inhalation, dehydration, and other injuries, cats have been reported to have come in droves to clinics and shelters, and are still being brought in for treatment and--when the burns are too severe and their pain too great--euthanasia.
Because of this I have sent the next installment of $3,000 to TOPCats on the Ridge, the Paradise-based domestic/homeless/feral cat rescue I've been in regular contact with. They are and will be on the front line searching for more of Paradise's cats that need immediate assistance, and are a small local organization in dire need of our financial support at this time. Their site to learn more and donate directly: http://www.topcatsontheridge.org

Donations altogether so far:
$2,000 -- PASH
$2,000--NVADG
$5,000--TOPCats on the Ridge
$5,000--Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation (donate to Paradise Camp Fire survivor and Bidwell founder Sandy Doolittle's personal GoFundMe page here--she lost everything in the fire: https://www.gofundme.com/sandy-doolittle-camp-fire-survivor)

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming donations, have a safe Thanksgiving weekend, and thank you all for continuing to share, donate, and pray for the town of Paradise, CA and surrounding areas as the residents, animal and human, recover.

Update on 11/19/18 for animal relief of Paradise, CA:

I just got off the phone with Sandy Doolittle of Paradise, CA, who is the founder of Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation (as well as one of the founders of North Valley Animal Disaster Group), to let her know that a check from this campaign is on the way. Rather than split it in segments (paper checks=long time), I sent the full $5,000 so that she can immediately begin rebuilding the rehab center's wildlife enclosure that burned down in the Camp Fire and treat the wildlife burn victims being brought to her daily.
When I asked Sandy how SHE was doing, she said she lost her home and all of her belongings, but that she escaped with her dogs and cats, and that's what matters. She informed me that a friend set up a GoFundMe for her, and I immediately offered to share the link here:
https://www.gofundme.com/sandy-doolittle-camp-fire-survivor

Please consider sharing and donating to Sandy's campaign so she is able to restart her life as well as the animals' lives she so selflessly serves.

Donation updates so far:

1. $2,000 North Valley Animal Disaster Group
2. $2,000 Paradise Animal Shelter Helpers
3. $2,000 Fieldhaven Feline Center
4. $5,000 Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation

Next recipient will either be Napa Valley Animal Lovers to purchase supplies for NVADG, or another payment to one of shelters/rescues above.

**First picture is of Sandy and one of her dogs, and the following pictures are of some of the most recent payments. Thank you, and please continue to share, donate, and pray as Paradise, CA and its animal residents recover!

11/18/18 Update:
I just received an email from TOPCats on the Ridge Board of Directors member Tamara Lynch, recipient of one of this campaign's donations so far:

"Dear Ashley,
Thank you so much! for your TREMENDOUS donation!!! What a relief it is to us. I can't express how truly grateful we are for the support our little town is receiving. We will most likely be allowed in soon, and I know there will be lots of cats needing our assistance. Thank you so much.
Your page also mentioned wanting to donate to wildlife. There is Bidwell Wildlife Rehab Center in Chico. I'm sure they will be taking injured wildlife from Paradise so they could probably use assistance too.
Again, Ashley thank you so much for helping the animals in Paradise. You're the BEST!
Tamara Lynch
TOPCats on the Ridge"

None of this would be happening without the generosity of all of YOU donors across the U.S. and internationally who have contributed to this campaign. Thank you to all who have donated, shared, and prayed for the animals impacted by the Camp Fire. As soon as I receive the next installment of funds (only sent to me on business days), the upcoming recipients include:

1) Fieldhaven Feline Center -- $2,000

2) Bidwell Wildlife Rehab Center -- $2,000

3) Another payment to North Valley Animal Disaster Group -- $1,513.57 (already sent $486.43 so far, so it will be an even $2,000)

Please keep sharing, supporting, and encouraging others to donate! Paradise, CA has a long way to go, but with our help these animals and rescues will be rehabilitated.
