Paddleboard The Nile

On March 6th 2014 I left Southampton on a 6,600 mile trek around Britain's coast-line. I mostly wild camped and used improvised shelters. I carried a pack raft with me and crossed lochs, estuaries and rivers. I stayed strictly to the coastline in an endeavour to hug the coastline of mainland Britain. On 26th July 2015 I finished.

During my trek I began to wonder what I would do when I finished. I had a few plans and some of those are currently being worked on. I also had an idea. An idea that would haunt every step I took over the following months. I wanted to push myself further, I wanted to really challenge myself.

Paddle boarding is a relatively new sport, and one that has fascinated mefrom the time I first set my eys on one. It was odd, it was an oversized surfboard with a man paddling like crazy to catch the waves. It was something new that had potential.

I had visited Egypt back in 2007 at the beginning of what would turn out to be a life changing 14 country backpacking adventure skipping through 14 countries in less than a year. The Nile had fascinated me then as did it now.

Paddleboard The Nile was a tiny sparkle of insanity which soon grew into maturity. The Nile is 4,250 miles long and starts in the forests of Rwanda. The first leg of the challenge would be to carry the paddleboard and all provisions to the point at which the expedition can take to the water. From that point on the expedition will follow the river through 5 more countries until the Nile joins the Med.
