From Bob's friend Estelle:

Friends, on behalf of Sharon its with a very heart that I share this news. After his long fight with cancer, our beloved Bob Purdy passed away early in the morning on January 29th. Much as our hearts are breaking, Bob wouldn't want us to be sad. He'd want us to go, because we can, to keep paddling, and to carry on with his legacy of bringing people together to change the way we live on the planet.

Please come out on Saturday Feb 3rd to paddle out and give Bob a proper waterman's sendoff and rally to support Sharon. We'll talk story, and together we'll form a circle on the water. Rain, snow, wind, or shine, because Bob paddled in anything. There will be groups paddling in these locations:

11 am in Deep Cove, For those who wish, a leisurely group paddle to Cates Park and back will follow.

11 am at Rotary Park in Kelowna

11 am at Willows Beach in Victoria
Brian from South Island SUP will have a few extra boards and paddles. A second circle will happen on land at the same time for those who can't paddle.

11 am at MacKenzie Beach in Tofino

Pink tutus are encouraged.

If you can't make it to any of these, paddle in your home waters, and take a moment to think of Bob and Sharon wherever you are.

Dear friends,

Here is a message from Bob:

After wrapping up work back in October I started to experience pain in the leg that was radiated in July. This began a long series of tests to figure out what was going on. One of those tests was a PET scan that showed evidence of cancer in the leg and the liver. This past Sunday I was trying to get up off the couch when something snapped in my groin. Turns out I pulled a bone spur off the femur and after an ambulance ride to Tofino and another ride to Victoria I had surgery yesterday morning to prevent further damage to the femur. I have had a rod put in the femur from the hip to the knee attached by 2 screws at the bottom and 1 at the top. This was a prentative surgery to prevent any further breakage. Sharon and I are waiting on the results of a liver biopsy I had done last week which, along with a host of other tests, should tell us what's going on. In the meantime we would both like to send a blanket of gratitude to all who have supported us on this journey emotionally, spiritually, financially and physically, it means more than I can say!...

Furthermore if friends Greg is requesting this from all of us:

"I'm going to be sending a healing energy ball to Bob Thursday, January 11th at 11:11 am PST. Hoping that you are able to participate, and any peeps on mass that you can get together on short notice. Thanks in advance. All the numbers will be stimulating the Angels that we need for this."

Greetings Friends, Happy New Year!

The beginning of the year comes with mixed feelings for our Friend Bob.

As he was enjoying being back at home on the Westcoast, working part time and slowly recovering from cancer and cancer treatments another set of of unfortunate events came upon him.

Unfortunately, Bob was transported by ambulance form Tofino to Victoria 2 days ago and he had to have an emergency surgery and yet again another biopsy.

We are so ever thankful for any good thoughts, support and for any financial donations that you may be able to share with these two, as this will yet again be a long road to recovery.

With immense gratitude and much love,
On behalf of all of us on the Westcoast,

Bob Purdy was a mentor, friend and hero to our organization. He truly embodied what it meant to be a change maker on this planet; he was dedicated, but his inner light never flickered - he always stayed positive and was able to bring everyone else up around him. He is one of those people who will always be remembered, and whose legacy will continue to make the earth a better place to live.

The Canadian SUP community lost one of its leaders this week to cancer. Although on the opposite side of the country, Bob's efforts and activism were noticed here in Ontario where we are based. Today we announce our fundraising efforts for Paddle4theCure, our Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser in Barrie, ON, along with proceeds from the sale of our Give Pink edition SUPs. Each year we donate a percentage of our fundraising directly to a local family effected by Breast Cancer. This year we are making an exception and donating to Bob Would Go in our support of everything that Bob stood for and in support of his family dealing with their loss.
