International Studies- Cuba
My name is Lydia Kopp. I am a student at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas. I am also a member of the 2016 International Studies class. We, a group of twelve people, are going to Cuba this spring break from March 13 to 23. We will go to various different places such as the Varadero beach, the University of Havana, and the Hotel Ambos Mundos, where Ernest Hemingway once lived. We will get to meet and chat with lots of deaf people in Cuba and learn about their culture. Of course, we will also go to a cigar-making factory for a tour (and see deaf workers as well!).
Each student was supposed to raise at least $2,800 to cover the entire trip- minus spending money. Ever since last June, my parents have paid monthly payments. I have also participated in different fundraisers with my fellow classmates to raise money. Some events were: Ceramic painting, Super Bowl Pool squares, and a Mystery Dinner Theatre.
Recently, a conflict appeared within the flight schedule and we had to change travel plans- resulting in an required fund increase to $3,400.
Now, with only two weeks left until our flight to Miami and then to Havana, I am hoping to receive one last boost from you all in order to reach $3,400 and start on getting spending money.
Thank you.
