Bihar Floods Appeal: Help a frontline community facing Climate Change!
Bihar, one of India’s poorest states, is in crisis with more than 10 million people suffering from floods. This unseasonal heavy flooding is a result of climate change and has destroyed public infrastructure, food crops, homes and public health. People are currently without homes, food, clean water or medical services. A red alert has been issued in half of the state. The government is trying their best to provide relief efforts but it is not enough.
I am Prashant Kumar, a native of Bihar. I have very recently returned to India after finishing a three-year series of humanitarian projects around the world in the name of a more united global family: www.VasudhaivaRide.com. Having helped disadvantaged communities internationally I now feel compelled, with great urgency, to help the people of my homeland in this desperate time.
During the flood, people are in a highly vulnerable situation but after the flood people’s lives become much more difficult. Disease and starvation will happen on a mass scale and people lack appropriate shelter. Just yesterday I heard that three women gave birth on a tiny patch of land underneath plastic sheeting, with no access to clean water, food or medical care. This is the reality right now of millions of people across this region.
I cannot standby and watch as my people suffer. I am asking for your help.
I am building a strong team of active locals to deal with the crisis. We need to raise £10,000 (12,272 USD) to distribute food, emergency equipment and medical assistance to the most affected rural villages.
The Contrubution will help with following -
- Food (Rice, Lentils, Oil, salt, veg, spices, baby food)
- Clothes, Sheets, blankets etc
- Medicines
- Clean drinking water filtration tablets
- Solar emergency lights for remote areas.
This will help in providing support to 3000 + people who are most affected in the region.
The world is facing a climate crisis, and Bihar is on the front line. Please donate to provide stability to the people of this unstable, severely climate-affected, land. I will be updating on the progress of this aid project.
