Chi (Jason) Shao Memorial Fund

On Feburary 15, 2016, tragedy struck our family.  Our father, Chi (Jason) Shao was on his usual routine run early in the morning near our home in Walnut, California.  He had been running this same route along La Puente Road for the past 10 years.  Along this road, many other residents also run, stroll, and walk their dogs throughout the day.   On this day, though, early in the morning, he was viciously hit from behind and driven into a wall.  The driver, Hassaim Massalkhy, intentionally targeted our father.  Our father passed away at the scene. The driver, Haissam Massalkhy is currently sitting in jail awaiting murder charges.

Our father always thought that he could live forever.  He ran every day to stay healthy and always bragged about living past 100 years old.  Never could our family have forseen such a senseless tragedy.

What's worst, our mom's birthday was 2 days later on the 17th.  Her birthday, for the last two years, have been a victory for our family as she survived two open-heart surgeries.  After all the strain and worry of those medical procedures, our family thought nothing worse could happen.  This heinous crime, however, immediately tore our lives apart.

Our dad will not be able to see our youngest brother graduate high school this coming May.

Our dad will not be able to see our two brothers get married.

And our dad will not be able to see any of his grandchildren.

At the tender age of 59, he suddenly vanished as if he never existed.

We would like to help raise funds for our mom to pay for bills and expenses, which are piling up.  (Luckily, Forest Lawn was generous enough to pay for the funeral costs.)  Our dad was dedicated to his family and work, working every day just to provide us with a decent life.  Now that he's gone, we would like to do everything we can to ease the financial strain from his loss.

Our family would be very grateful for any donations we receive.  We are not greedy.  We are not asking for the moon and the stars.  We are merely asking for those willing to just even share our story.  A lot of times, as Taiwanese immigrants, our stories go unshared and untold.  Please don't let our father's death diminish and help us cherish his memory.
