The Movie Man, Bob Paglia's funeral
Donation protected
Bob Paglia was a local icon. For close to 50 years, his movie and theater reviews for, at first, WELI, and then CTV, the local public access station, captivated all who witnessed them. His wonderful surity, eloquence, humor and deep wisdom, together with a love and tremendous grasp of film and theater lore reaching well beyond the ordinary delivered with his lilting baritone was treasured by an ever expanding, devoted audience. He earned a masters degree in philosophy from Trinity College in 1972. Was an authority on Socrates, Ayn Rand, Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger, Jean-Paul Sartre, served up many polished and formidable series of lectures. Stories abound of the irresistablity of the chance to engage Bob in conversation as he was never at a loss to speak with remarkable grace and generosity with all who approached him . He published two novels- The Higher Men and The Dinasaur Murders- and a temporarily lost philosophical tract. He taught part time at various universities and colleges until the day before his death last month. His optimistic, romantic and doggedly forbearant nature precluded a certain forsight needed to make the necessary arrangements to cover his funeral expenses. Please help us, his family, fans and friends, working people, students and artists, to raise the necessary funds for the funeral of our beloved friend.
To some the figure listed may seem high, but it is a few hundred dollars less than the one the funeral home asked for...Bob said in his will that he wants to be buried in tact, so we want to do all we can to honor that wish.
