Hi! My name is Kelly and I am disabled and a single mom for the second time in my life. My daughters are grown now and have children of their own. My 9 year old son, Riley, and I have been struggling, on our own, for 3+ years. I have lost count of the amount of times we have moved. We have been in some wonderful places, where, due to unforseen circumstances, had to end. We have been in some awful places, where the agreement for the living arrangements changed from day to day. Some where people felt that because they were doing us a favor by renting us a room, they could treat us however they so chose to at any given moment.
In August we moved in with someone who we thought was a good match. Equal partnership into the least. 50/50 on rent. Then, about 3 weeks later, a different person emerged. For the past 4 months, we have been forced to endure bullying, verbal abuse, threats of physical harm, electric turned off at the breaker box in her room, water turned off at the main valve, pilot light turned off on heater, etc. Police say that she's only doing something illegal if we ever had an intimate relationship. EXCUSE ME??? So she forced our landlord's hand and he gave us notice to vacate on January 15, 2016.
As healthcare is practically non existent here in Northern California and we don't have any support here, we really need to go back home to Maryland, where my family and many of my friends are. We have housing and a huge support network waiting for us.
Being disabled, I am on a very small fixed-income which is gone before I get it on bills.
HERE is where I need your help. After doing all the research, I have found that a DIY move is the most cost effective way to go. If we were to lose all of our stuff again, ESPECIALLY our beloved cat, Stormageddon, I would be hurt. Riley would be devastated.
If we are not able to leave by the 15th, we may end up on the streets and it's cold out there.
Every little bit helps. Please! I'm not asking for me. I'm asking for my children. My daughters need me back home and my son needs them. I'm also praying that his father will contact him and see him when we get there. For Riley's sake.
