In 2011, on my 22nd birthday, I found out that I had osteosarcoma, which is a form of bone cancer. After nine months of chemo and multiple surgeries I was cleared and told I was in remission. I went out and lived my life. I married the love of my life, got a couple of dogs and we ended up putting down roots in Illinois.
In July of 2014 I found out that I was no longer in remission for my cancer. It had spread to my lungs. What this means is that my lungs are full of tumors roughly the size of golf balls. Breathing is understandably getting harder for me, so I'm trying to accomplish the things on my bucket list while I still can.
To make my situation clear, only 8% of people with what I have respond to chemo. I am not in that 8%. There are currently no other treatments for my cancer. I was in a clinical trial where the drug was found not to have an effect, and my doctor is trying different medications that the medical community speculates could possibly do something, however at best they would only slow the growth. There is no way to stop the growth or shrink the tumors. Because of the number and size of the tumors in my lungs, surgery is not possible. I even asked about a lung transplant, but they said even that won't work.
Any donations will go toward funding my bucket list items, although they'll possibly be used for medical expenses, since those are beginning to add up. There's so much I want to do and see before I die. I always assumed I'd have time to do it later, but it seems that now is my only option.
The things I want to do include traveling to Europe (specifically France!), getting a professional massage, getting a tattoo and visiting family on the other side of the country.
