Hello, and thank you for visiting our page. My name is Vanessa and I have a younger sister, my mother and father. This fund is for my father, Hugo.
On October 24, 2014 my family and I recieved the news no one should ever hear. My father, our support system, our bread winner was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph nodes.
With that diagnosis my family and I were in a state of confusion, anger, frustration and sorrow. I was in my first semester at college away from my family, and my sister had just started her sophomore year in high school. We decided that we were going to fight this cancer together, as a family and I began coming home every weekend.
My father is a strong man, always putting his family before himself, and now it was our turn to repay him for all that he has done for us. His treatments were going well until January 25, 2015. He was admitted into Rush Medical Center were he stood there until March 13, 2015. During his stay at Rush, he had many complications, and we had recieved word that his cancer had spread into his brain. This was especial hard for my mother, who has stood at his bedside since January. He wasn't able to recognize who we were; that broke our hearts. Things got worse from there, he went into a deep sleep for 4 days, wasn't able to move or talk.
Around March, he start to make subtle movements on his own and was able to open his eyes. On March 13, the hosptial told us he had to be moved to a rehablilitation center were they would help him become himself again. While the cancer is still there, we are hoping to get our dad back.
This has affected my family in so many ways. My mother has stood by his side every night, missing work and using up all her vacation and medical time. My father's benefits have run out because he hasn't been able to work. I had to take a semester off of school and come back home and start working so we could have some extra money to pay bills. While family and friends have been there to help and support we are still struggling.
Any donations will help my family get our dad back. All the money raised will go towards paying his medical bills and help his recovery.
