Haiti Hospital in need of a Truck

Donation protected
Hi. My name is Gail Nield.
I am a Canadian Dermatologist who works in Woodbridge, Ontario. You may not know that I volunteered as a medical student in Haiti in 1982. I have been travelling to Haiti every summer since 2009, seeing patients in the hospital clinic, teaching Haitian medical students and providing much needed medical supplies and medications.

Hôpital Bon Samaritain is a full service hospital situated in Limbé, Haiti. Since 1953, Hôpital Bon Samaritain, a non profit hospital, has been providing essential medical care to the town of Limbé, and surrounding communities in northern Haiti.

This summer the hospital's only truck broke down and could not be fixed. The mechanic had been keeping this truck running since 1992. It was essential to the hospital. It was used to transport vital supplies, medicines and volunteers to and from Cap Haitien and the International Airport.
The hospital lies 57 kms from Cap Haitien, an hour drive on dirt and partially paved roads, full of potholes and other obstructions.
The hospital is in desperate need of a new truck. It must be tough enough to withstand the rugged road conditions in Haiti.

Diesel trucks are much more practical in in developing countries. Diesel fuel is cheaper and readily available. Diesel trucks also require less maintenance than standard trucks.

Over 6000 patients are treated every month in the outpatient department.
It has an ER department, in-patient beds, a maternity ward and an orphanage.

Hôpital Bon Samaritain has contacted a reputable car dealership, Behrmann Motors in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
They are offering to sell the hospital a Mitsubishi L200 GLX Double Cabin Diesel Manual Transmission Truck for 37,000 USD.

I am hoping to raise 35,000 CAD which will go a very long way in procuring this truck.
This truck is absolutely essential to the day to day operations of the Hôpital Bon Samaritain.

The hospital provides employment for hundreds of individuals from the community. It also provides free clean water for the town.

Haiti continues to be the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. Tragedy after tragedy has befallen this country. It can be overwhelming for any of us who wish to help, to know where our funds are needed the most and where the money will be used wisely.

I am personally reaching out to all of my family, friends and colleagues to help raise funds for a new truck for Hôpital Bon Samaritain.

100 % OF THE PROCEEDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TOWARDS PURCHASING THE TRUCK.

I can certainly attest to the strong ethics of the Hôpital Bon Samaritain Foundation.
I believe that this truck is crucial to the hospital. A new truck will help the patients who rely on the hospital for essential services and treatments.

Please feel free to share this with your friends.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this project.
I believe we can make this happen.
