Outdoor dogs runs for a safer day!

These pictures are of our yards before our individual outdoor dog runs will be installed in a couple of weeks.

Goshen Humane survives on very little funding. We work hard to raise money for large Veterinary bills and to survive in general as a small shelter.

We are now at a point where we need to have individual dog runs installed outdoors. This is for the safety of the dogs, employees and volunteers. We have several dog yards but dogs are not allowed to be out unattended, and fencing is expensive. Presently when dogs are let out they are let out one at a time to ensure that there are no fights, and everyone is safe however, many of our dogs are being rehabilitated and worked with. At times some of these dogs when let out (invididually) have attempted to bang and or/head butt the door of another dog run. This not only adds stress to the dogs, but adds stress and concern to the employees and volunteers whom work and care for the dogs.

In a nutshell, individual outdoor dog runs are an absolute necessity to the safety of the shelter -NOT a luxury! American Fence (whom are also animal lovers) have installed all our fencing needs in the past and will be installing our dog runs. Each run will have have double fencing running down each divider which will be about 3 1/2 inches thick so that the dogs can't reach each other through the fencing. Every run will have it's own gate with lock at the end of the run. This way each dog can be let in and out of the yard when it's time to play, or they may be doing agility or getting ready to go for a walk.

What's even greater is this gives our dogs the ability during the nicer weather to have their guillotine doors open and have the ability to go in and out ALL day without having to wait for an employee to let them out one at a time (maybe once or twice otherwise.) This means that ALL the dogs can be out at one time and not one at a time. Yes, this is expensive, but safety wise it is a necessity and our dogs deserve it. This has been a long time coming. Please consider donating to this cause. These dogs are are so grateful for everything they get, and I can tell you that they will be very, very happy dogs once these runs are completed.

On top of that, my staff volunteers have already taken down all the rotting fencing and are excited for this new project. Please help us with this new endeavor - our furry friends say..........
