This is the story of Will White, a handsome, loving, smart 10 year old boy who contracted Transverse Myelitis when he was 5 months old.  The results of this unknown disease are that he is paralyzed from the chest down, has a neurogenic bladder, breathing issues, cognitive issues, and difficulties with fine motor skills.  Since he contracted this disease in 2005 we have had countless visits to hospitals and specialty clinics.  With those visits we accrue living and food expenses and over time that adds up and are not covered by insurance.

In June of 2014 due to his scoliosis related to TM, he had to have growing rods placed in his spine.  That surgery was a rough one and we were in the hospital for a week.  2 weeks later Will still had not recovered from the surgery so he went back to the doctor and he had an infection called pseudomonas.  Unfortunately 4 visits later, 8 surgeries, and 42 days in the hospital Will had to have his baclofen pump removed because that was what was causing the infection.

In February 2015 he had his rods lengthened and the neurosurgeon put the baclofen pump back in, in hopes to help with his horrible spasms that he has in his abdomen, back, and legs.  Unfortunately,  the catheter from the baclofen pump was leaking spinal fluid.  Secondly, his body was trying to reject the pump.  The result of which was he was in beginning stages of bacterial meningitis.  He had to have another surgery to remove the pump.  This visit has put him on IV antibiotics for 3 weeks which means he has come home with a PICC line in his arm in order for him to continue to receive the antibiotics every six hours.  This visit we were in the hospital for a week.

Since he is paralyzed, he is in need of a stair chair to get him upstairs to bed at night and then down in the morning.   He would like to be able to go up and down to see his sisters and brother when he wants to play with them.  Insurance does not cover this expense.

In only his 10 short years he has been through more than any human should have to deal with and he does it with a smile.  He is the most loving little boy who is obsessed with Star Wars and strives to become like George Lucas one day and create more Star Wars movies.  He is in 4th grade and loves school and all of his friends.  He has 2 sisters and a brother and a dog named Toby.

Will has so much going against him and we do not know what the future will hold for him or how long he will be with us so we strive to make each day the best day that we can.  Whatever help you can give us to aid in bettering his daily life would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
