UPDATE:

Our van was found on Monday, January 16. There was some minor damage to the vehicle, and it will need a major cleaning due to the joy ride. The tools were not recovered, and need replacement.

We are lowering our goal to 5,000 to reflect the current need, and ask everyone to support us while also spreading the word in hope that those that committed the crime can. E captured.

During the night on January 13, 2017, the workshop of the Opportunity Center Program at Bay Area Rehabilitation Center was broken into and the theft of a van and several tools occured. The cost to Bay Area Rehabilitation Center to replace the stolen items, even after insurance reimbursement, is expected to be $40,000. This theft occured at a time when Bay Area Rehabilitation Center is also dealing with a reduction in United Way funding for the program that provides services to approximately 170 adult clients with disabilities.

The Opportunity Center Program provides adults with disabilities site-based services, day habilitation, vocational training, Home Community Services, Texas Home Living, and job placement. The benefit from each of the various areas provides participants with social, life, and vocational skills. These skills allow participants to obtain a sense of empowerment, and to succeed socially in the community.

The Opportunity Center Program clients rely on the van's for transportation to and from center as well as transportation to various job sites.  The clients take pride in working for the City of Baytown, Exxon, Chambers county, and other communities and buisinesses.  The tools that were stolen are utilized by clients to construct items that are sold to assist in the cost of running the Opportunity Center Program. The funding from these projects is also utilized to pay the clients for their work.

Bay Area Rehabilitation Center will quickly need to replace the stolen van and tools. The Center is seeking $40,000 in contributions for this purpose, and as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, all contributions are tax decuctible. Your contributions will allow Bay Area Rehabilitation Center to avoid any delays in job training for the adults with disabilities who rely on our program. With your assistance, we can continue to make disabilities become possibilities through services provided in the Opportunity Center Program. We deeply appreciate any contirbutions provided to this program!
