What is the Open Carry Guitar Rally?

The Open Carry Guitar Rally is a satirical poke at the Open Carry Gun crowd.  While our event is not particulary anti-gun, it is against open carry of guns in public spaces and provides people a way to expess their opposition of open carry without further escalating a dangerous situation.  In the words of creator Barry Kooda - 'We aren't anti-gun, we're anti-stupid.'  During an open carry guitar rally, citizens congregate in a public place while brandishing their instruments and trading songs and guitar licks.   We are musicians first, and we come in peace.  Since the original Open Carry Guitar Rally last year in Dallas, there have been rallies in Austin, Cleveland, Fresno, and both Bend and Medford Oregon and more planned this year in Denver and Nashville.  We started the movement and we continue to improve on the idea, as we find find more ways to make this one uniquely Dallas.

Why do We Need Your Help?

This year, we are making the Dallas event bigger and better by adding live music, food, restrooms and more.  We also want to keep it FREE to attend.  To do that, we need to raise money from sponsorships, and from you to pay for those costs and related costs (permits, security, sanitation, equipment rental).  We have an idea of what we need to make this happen, but we hope to raise even more because after our costs are met we plan to donate the remaining funds to the Carter Albrecht Foundation. So with your help, we can host this Dallas event again, make it better, involve more people, make a sensible statement, and raise some money for a good charity.

When and Where is This Year's Event?

The second annual Open Carry Guitar Rally will be held on the Continental Bridge Park on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 from 4PM to 9PM.  Our basic guidelines remain the same. Family Friendly, All Inclusive, Fun and FREE TO ATTEND.  As before, this is an event that belongs to all of us and we wholeheartedly encourage everyone to open their minds and let the fellowship and good ideas flow.

Hello everyone, We're getting close!

I'm going through and making sure that we have the gifts lined up properly, so if you have a t-shirt coming, do me a favor and let me know what size you'd like so I can set those aside. (my personal email is: avidfantabulous@gmail.com) The donor gifts will be available at the info desk at the rally and if you can't make it, let me know and I'll mail them to you.

Thanks again for your generosity and I hope that we see you all at the rally!

As we get closer to the event, and we have a better idea of what our actual costs are now, we are lowering the goal to $5000. We currently have enough to cover the costs of the rally (THANK YOU!!!!) but are still raising money to be donated to the Carter Albrecht Foundation. So please keep the pledges coming, it's a great cause!

Convince businesses to stand up to people who would carry real weapons into their establishment by threatening not to patronize their business, and encourage your friends to do the same. If people with weapons come in while you're there, leave immediately. Do not pay for your meal, just exit for your own safety immediately. Businesses will soon get the message that paying customers are unwilling to be in the presence of weapons, and the businesses will have to choose between you and your family, and the Open Carry people.

Anybody who knows me knows I love guns as much as I love walking around with no pants. But that don't mean I think going to Kroger sans pants with a long gun strapped to my back is appropriate public behavior. It's hard enough justifying my proclivities as it is without some numbnuts cracker parading around with his shit on display to stir people up. Keep your gun in your pants when you gotta go out in public. Didn't your mama teach you better'n that? It ain' polite to wave that weapon around in public. While I'm on the subject, let's throw in to the kitty before we go to the party. You throw a buck in on the beer run, don'tcha? Same thing.
