Inspiring Your Inner Hero – One Stroke at a Time
My name is Denis Crean, I am a marathon open water swimmer and the founder of WaveOne Swimming. On October 10, 2016 , I will swim 21+ miles from Santa Catalina Island to Los Angeles in the Pacific Ocean. I am inspired to attempt this channel crossing by my heroes and team mates, who are also Special Olympics athletes. My goal is to raise $8,000 to provide training and competition opportunities in triathlon and open water swimming for these inspirational athletes.

In 2012, WaveOne Swimming welcomed Washington DC area Special Olympics athletes to open water swimming. With courage and determination, these athletes overcome fears, breakdown barriers, and shatter preconcieved notions as they work toward new goals. The rewards are the joy of a hard earned accomplishment, huge smiles and the love from new friendships. Time and time again, our Special Olympics swimmers inspired me to greater heights. Help me continue to provide athletes with intellectual disabilities more opportunities to become triathletes and open water swimmers. Throughout life we look up to and look for people as heroes to inspire us to greater achievements. Inspiration reveals itself in many forms, at any time and these athletes offer inspiration for many lifetimes.

My mission in developing WaveOne Swimming was to create opportunities for people to swim and challenge themselves beyond conventional limits. That mission resulted in building an open water swimming community that inspires and creates heroes in each of us.
