On the Road For Climate Action

OUR MISSION
Urgent action is required to curb greenhouse gas emissions and slow climate change. The U.S. has an important role to play in leading this action.  However, climate policy and behavioral change have thus far been inadequate, and climate change is ensuing at an accelerated pace.  I am an air pollution scientist and Athina is an educator. Together, we are a young couple calling on fellow scientists and citizens to speak out about the dangers of climate change and make climate policy a central issue in the 2018 midterm elections. This year we will pause our careers in order to take to the road to advocate for climate action and identify effective strategies of climate communication.  The year will begin with a 10 week climate action tour across the U.S., which is the focus of this funding effort.

ACTION PLAN
August 1st, we will depart from California, heading east through the great plains, up to New England, and back, over 10 weeks. To minimize emissions, we will rent an electric vehicle. En route, we will visit various towns to speak with city councils, community groups, and college campuses about climate change.  We will also engage in door-to-door activity and administer a  survey to assess climate change sentiment around the country and how it differs by region. The pinnacle of our voyage will be a visit to Capitol Hill where we'll welcome fellow citizens to join us in meeting with our members of Congress for a “Day of Congressional Climate Action!”

The Citizens' Climate Lobby is a highly effective non-partisan, non-profit organization, that is helping us schedule and plan our tour.  We have proudly volunteered for them over the last year, and will encourage others to do the same on the road. They share in our vision; that collective action across political parties, cultures, and demographics is necessary to resolve climate change. This begins with climate change awareness, education, and open discussion. The climate cannot be a taboo topic if we are serious about our futures. So let's bring climate change back to the dinner table and ballot box.

Our journey is just one step to galvanize such action. It is a journey to educate and inspire!

YOUR DONATION
By generously donating today, you will help us make this climate tour a reality. We are planning wisely to keep costs to a minimum. However, contributions of any amount are welcomed. Trip-related expenses include food, lodging, and renting a zero-emissions vehicle for 10 weeks.  We are extra grateful for your support as this tour will mean a deferral from paid employment. All donors will receive a kind thank you in our video blog!  =)
