Olivia's cuddle cot

Donation protected
On Sunday the 4th March 2018 our world was turned upside down. We discovered our little girl Olivia Rose Ferguson had grew her wings. I hadn't felt too much movement on Sunday and after spending all day decorating her nursery I thought i maybe just didnt notice her moving because I was so busy! Then Sunday night came and I knew something wasn't  right so we went to the Royal Victoria Hospital to get checked. As soon as we got there we where taken in and they couldn't find a heart beat. As soon as I heard the words " I'm sorry " I felt this crippling pain that took my breath away. The baby I had been waiting to meet for 35 weeks had been taken away. My head filled with all the worst thoughts. i wouldn' get to hear her cry or laugh. I wouldn' get to see her smile or watch her grow up with her brother.

On the 8th of March, I gave birth to Olivia at 7.30am. I had the most amazing labour ever and couldn't of wished for anything more, all thanks to the support of the Midwife team in the royal and ofcourse Ryan and both our families.  Olivia was put into a cuddle cot which allowed us to spend time with her before we had to say goodbye. For those of you who don't know a cuddle cot is, its a Moses basket that is cooled down allowing families to spend precious time with their baby.  The Royal Victoria Hospital only have 3 cuddle cots at the minute. To many this might seem like a lot because ' having a still born doesn't really happen'. That' what I thought until it happened to me. Olivia was the 230th baby registered as still born this year alone in northern Ireland! That is roughly 3 babies stillborn every day!! so 3 cuddle cots really is not a lot.

In Olivias memory we would like to raise enough money in order to provide the RVMH with another cuddle cot(£2000)  In addition to this we would like to redecorate one off the rooms in the delivery suite so that any other family going through this can feel as comfortable as possible! We would like to purchase a new sofa bed, single and double, so that birthing partners can relax as much as they can. These cost around £700 each as they have to come from a special supplier in order to meet NHS regulations. We would also like to purchase a radio with Bluetooth option so that people have the option to play there own music under the circumstances, some people might find comfort in choosing their own music so the room isn' silent.  We would also like to purchase keep sake items such as small teddy bears and blankets  so that families going through this have those precious memories to bring home.

Over the next year we will be fundraising in Olivia's name to help the hospital and families going through the same thing. There will be fundraising nights and much more so please help out where you can and keep an eye out!

Still born is real, it does happen and it doesn't discriminate it can happen to ANYONE!! Please if your pregnant count the kicks and keep track of your babies movemet. If you are concerned go to the hospital even if you feel silly. There is no safety mark during during pregnancy, everything can change in a matter of minutes. Enjoy your pregnancy and everything that comes with it because you don't know if that kick will be the last.
