Ohio State of Mind to ICCA FINALS!

We are The Ohio State of Mind, a co-ed a Cappella group from THE Ohio State University. Founded in 2010 as Key of Gee and later changed to a more timeless title, our group has been performing at various events on campus and the community for more than 7 years now and loving every second of it.
For the last 5 years, OSM a Cappella has competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) hosted by Varsity Vocals. The growth this group has made since 2012 has been incredible. In 2016 we placed 3rd at our Midwest Quarterfinal Competition date in Centerville. Our group was proud of our accomplishment but determined to return the next year and advance to Semifinals.
On February 25th, 2017 The Ohio State of Mind traveled back to Centerville, Ohio to compete in our 2017 ICCA Midwest Quarterfinal and placed second overall. Morgan Tudor also brought home the Oustanding Soloist award for the group. Placing second allowed our group to become only the second group in Ohio State history to advance to the Semifinal level of the ICCA competition.
This past weekend, on March 25th, we traveled to Indiana University to compete at the Semifinals round. The competition was incredibly talented and tough. Amazingly, we placed first and were awarded the title of 2017 ICCA Midwest Champions and 2017 ICCA Finalists. Jojo Otseidu was awarded Outstanding Arrangment and Gabe Geiger was awarded Outstanding Vocal Percussion.
This moves us forward to ICCA Finals in New York City on April 22nd at the Beacon Theater on Broadway. This is an event reserved for the top 10 groups in the world. A truly international competition, this year’s finalists hail from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Not only is competing at Finals in New York the single greatest honor for a collegiate a Cappella group, OSM is now the first group in history to represent The Ohio State University at this level of the competition and the first group from the entire state of Ohio to go to Finals!!!!
The Ohio State of Mind has already begun working tirelessly to fund the cost of this expensive trip. We have started contacting OSU administration, local news organizations, and looking for sponsors for our trip to subsidize out of pocket costs. At cheapest, this trip will cost our group around $5,000 for lodging, travel expenses, and intermittent costs while in New York City.
This is where we turn to you, our friends and family and our supporters, and humbly ask for any support you may be able to provide. ICCA Finals at the Beacon Theater on Broadway will have 2,894 people in attendance, as the venue is completely sold out. The title of ICCA Finalists is the title for which every group in the country strives and we have worked hard to do just that. Any and all donations recieved will go directly toward making The Ohio State of Mind the first group from OSU and Ohio to perform at this Finals event. Funds that are raised in excess of our costs will be applied directly towards professionally recording our set and beginning to create an EP for our group!
