Post-Maria Relief Off The Grid, PR

$12,885 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 55 people in 20 months
Hola! I am a resident of Puerto Rico who survived two hurricanes, Irma and Maria, the last category 5. Never in my life have I experienced this catastrophic situation; the island is shattered.
Many friends from around the world have asked me how they can help; after giving a lot of thought I have concluded that money is the best option. I don't feel comfortable asking for money, but I don't trust what is going around with the logistics of the transportation with the goods donated. I decided to take matter in my own hands and help those in need.
My scope is to focus on water purifiers, small solar panels, solar lights, inverters, mosquito nets, solar radios, headlamps, flashlights and other gadgets that help people and communities to be self sufficient for the long term.
Many friends and families have lost everything. I think that with basic needs we can strive. So those who know me and want to help, please donate. If you want to help specific communities or families, let me know. I am based in San Juan and am interested in helping in the west coast of the island as well, specifically in the towns of Isabela and Aguadilla.

I will send pics and stories of everyone who gets help with your contribution. Thanks in advance!!!

Un abrazo fuerte,

Gretchen

Hola! Hello to everyone!
I want to say thank you again to all the kind souls that have donated and volunteered to make this campaign happen. In your honor, I began a visual blog with images from the different visits to communities we have done in Puerto Rico to give your donations.
This humble page, is a work in progress, and I will continue to add content. You can subscribe if you like!

This weekend, Off the Grid will be visiting Comerío to join forces with Coco de Oro, another grassroots movement that adopted the community of Vuelta del Dos. We will be distributing solar lamps from Off the Grid, along with 50 emergency kits from I am Rescue Kit.
We also had an approach from Mpowered Luci Lights and an anonymous donor, will provide 150 Luci lights Off the Grid Puerto Rico, fingers crossed!
Still many areas without power, and yesterday we had a 10 hour power shortage. We are empowering residents with their own kits so they can keep a float in these difficult times.
I will close the campaign soon and will transfer all the information to the blog. In the future donations could be done through my paypal account or if you want to mail me items, please write me through the blog and I will send you the physical address.
Thank you so much!
Gretchen

During the month of January "Off the Grid PR" has helped several municipalities through your generous donations. For Three Kings Day, we offered toys and headlamps to children in Yabucoa and went to Cubuy in Canóvanas to hand out solar lights. After those visits, we gave donations to the residents of Barrio Cruces and Frontón high in the mountains of Ciales.
Farrique Pesquera shared these photos he took in Comerío while distributing 50 lights to the community.
Yesterday we helped a restaurant in the mountains of Cayey, so they could open until later with the solar lights provided. We also donated lights to local artist Carmelo Sobrino who is going to distribute them to the community of Barrio Bartolo in Lares, next week.
Thank you so much, the people of Puerto Rico really appreciate your help.

Happy students from Escuela de Artes Plásticas with their new hand fans and portable charging station. Professor Migdalia Luz Barens Vera is using the charging station in her classes at the university, students charge their phones 100% and tablets while in class. No power, solar is the way to go.
The hand fans are a small detail that changes your life in order to beat the heat in Puerto Rico. Thanks to everyone who has donated, you are making a difference in the lives of many.
We continue on this journey! ☀️
