Officer Dave Imber has been working with the City of Lathrup Village since 2017 and has made various friendships, while helping others along the way. Dave is 38 years old and has recently just been diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Dave has had surgery to remove the tumor and will begin chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Unfortunately, insurance will only cover a portion of the medical expenses. Officer Imber is a proud member of the law enforcement community and of the Lathrup Village Police Department.

Dave was born in the City of Southfield, MI and started his career serving others by joining the Army in 2005 at age 24. Dave first joined the Michigan National Guard, 425th Unit out of Selfridge, MI as a Platoon Leader. Dave later went on to the 125th Infantry in 2008 and fought overseas in Iraq. In 2009/2010 Dave was then stationed with the 82nd Airborne Division. Currently, Dave is still serving in the Army Reserves as a Brigade Intelligence Officer for the 272nd.

After serving his country for several years, Dave got married in 2010 to his wife Julie. Dave and Julie have two daughters, Mia who is 4 years old and Brooke who is 14 years old. While making valuable memories and supporting his family, Dave went on to work Corrections for Livingston County in 2016. Dave then began pursuing a career in Police and soon became an Officer here in the City of Lathrup Village.

Dave has dedicated his life to helping others within both his community and his country. Personally, I know Dave to be a completely selfless person and very humble. Dave is fighting with everything he has to beat this disease that came over night and without sign. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

All donations are greatly appreciated and will help the Imber family pay for medical costs and future planning while Dave is off work.

Yesterday was a difficult day accompanying my brother and his wife to his MRI.

Unlike the last time we went for an MRI, Dave is now unable to walk on his own. It felt strange, my brother, someone I have always envied when it comes to physical fitness I now was pushing around in a wheelchair. This cancer has just taken such a toll on him physically, especially these last few months.

We were given the unfortunate news from the Doctor that the tumor has grown significantly in size, 3x larger than it was at his last scan in November. The current medication has done nothing and at this rate the tumor is growing 2-3x in size every couple months. When we asked about the condition he would be in if it doubles again before his next MRI, the Doctor told us that physically it cannot double in size again, there is no more room in the brain.

The end result from the visit was to try what seems like one last shot, one last medication to “prolong life” as much as possible. If it doesn’t work obviously the outlook doesn’t look good at the current rate of growth.

Everyone in the family has taken this new differently, but we all share the same emotion of being completely heartbroken. While we try to stay hopeful, it’s hard not to be devastated by such news as what received yesterday. I struggle with the right words and finding the right emotions. All I know is that I hurt so much for my brother, for his wife, for his little girl, for my parents.

If one person has remained resilient through it all, it’s my brother Dave. Every time something isn’t working, he just says what’s next, what’s the next course of action. Never giving up hope!

Thank you to everyone that has continued to show support and love towards Dave, Julie, and our family. On the radio yesterday morning they said over 1,000 people came to the Fundraiser at the VFW in Howell, it was truly something special. Stories were shared, there was laughter, and tears were shed. It was incredible to have seen such an overwhelming turnout and it certainly made Dave and Julie emotional, it means so much knowing so many people support them. It's a blessing to have such a wonderful support team in our lives, and we thank each and everyone of you.

Below are a few photos from the event. Dave with his Wife Julie, and Dave with his co-workers from the Lathrup Village Policy Department who have been gone above and beyond in supporting Dave.

Thank you for continuing to show your support. Quick update, the standard of care proved to not treat the tumor as we had hoped. The most recent scan has shown some progression in tumor growth.

The tumor was sent in for genetic testing, and there were a few mutations discovered. We are hoping we can attack the tumor using medications that will target these mutations. Dave continues to maintain a positive attitude and show courage in spite of that situation he is up against.

Thank you all again for the continuing donations! Dave has started chemo/radiation treatments and is still fighting. He’s been very busy with doctor appointments and is starting to feel the side effects of the treatments, but he is going to try his hardest to make it to the fundraising event this week.

His wife and daughters are very thankful for each and everyone of you.

Please continue to share and if you can make it to Shield’s in Southfield this week we would all greatly appreciate it! Hope to see you all there.
