Officer Eugene Orr Memorial Fund

Officer Eugene “Gene” Orr started his career in law enforcement in August of 2004 in America's heartland with the Broken Arrow Police Department.

He served with distinction, earning a number of commendations/medals, on all three shifts and became a beloved School Resource Officer for Broken Arrow Public Schools.  Gene was an integral part of the Special Operations Team’s Crisis Negotiations Unit and was also active as a board member with our Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. Gene previously served the BAPD as a field training officer where he demonstrated such good communication skills that he was an obvious choice for a full-time training assignment.

Ofc. Orr truly found his calling when he became a part of the police academy training staff serving as a firearms instructor, ultimately becoming our range-master. Gene had a passion for firearms training and he was able to bring a unique blend of personality and humor to the position. Gene was blessed with a renowned sense of wit and humor which often brought levity (always appropriately timed) to the intensity of the training. Gene excelled in his role as a firearms trainer and was passionate about his craft. He genuinely cared about his students and would often spend a great deal of his own time helping those who struggled.

Sgt. Brad Klingenberg recently commented, “I am constantly receiving positive feedback from officers, supervisors, applicants and citizens about his friendly demeanor and his willingness to help others. He understands the importance of customer service and being a public servant.”

Tragically, Gene was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident on Saturday, December 10, 2016.  There is no one officer who has had a greater impact on his Department and the City he so faithfully served.  Father, son, brother, officer and friend, he has left us all far too soon.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Andrea, son Josh, daughter Hailey and a police family who loved him dearly. He was a friend to all and he will be sorely missed.

Our sole mission is to honor Gene's service and his memory and to see to it his family is cared for in the future.  Please consider what you can do to help make sure they are never forgotten.

All proceeds of this campaign will be placed in a memorial fund for Officer Orr's family set up by the Broken Arrow Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 170. Funds will be utilized as deemed appropriate by Andrea Orr.
