Odyssey West: A Walk Across America

$5,270 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 99 people in 33 months
My name is Chris West and I am walking across America.

All funds raised will be going towards food, park/campground fees, emergency lodging, and shoes and other replacement gear. Any surplus of funds at the end of this extraordinary journey will be donated to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.

This trip quickly grew from an idea into a goal while dealing with my own bouts of depression. I became fascinated by long distance hiking and reading about others who have trekked coast to coast. And on March 13th I am making my dream a reality!

I will be extremely grateful and appreciative of any and all donations.  I plan to document my trip as much as possible with a blog and other social media accounts. If you are interested in following my progress, I will be posting links soon.

Thank you so much and please share this page with everyone you can!

It's October 1. It's day 203. I've walked over 3,300 miles. I'm in Burns, OR with less than 400 to go to Newport. Taking tomorrow off to take care of some foot problems. At this point, I'll limp to the Pacific. I'm there. I have this. It's mine.

To those who have donated, thank you. Thank you so much. You guys are the real heroes.

I stood and faced the Atlantic Ocean in Emerald Isle, NC the morning of March 13. Today is September 13 and I am sitting in Twin Falls, ID. I have walked 3004.3 miles over 184 days. The fact that I have walked over 3000 miles is just astonishing to me. The last 6 months have been a roller coaster of every emotion you can think of. I've seen places and things that I never thought I would. I've met amazing and generous human beings. I've visited family and old friends and met new friends that I'll remember forever. I've walked through sun, rain, wind, heat, cold, pollen, gnats, and only one rogue raccoon incident. I've walked on open desert roads and beside busy byways around the 'burbs. I've been waved at and saluted by truckers and nearly mowed down by little old ladies and people texting. I'm taking today off and resting and going over the rest of my route. I have roughly 700 miles left and that seems like nothing compared to what I've accomplished. I reflect on my first 700 and I realize I still have long journey ahead of me to the end. Thank you to everyone that has helped me get this far and enjoy the stroll! If you could take the time to share this and help spread the word to the rest of Idaho and Oregon, I would greatly appreciate it.

I conquered Guardsman Pass today. The most difficult climb of the journey so far. I'll make it down to Salt Lake City tomorrow and recover from the Wasatch Range.
Big thank you for the recent donations. You guys are awesome!

I'm getting close to the 2600 mile mark. I may have already crossed it. I'm well into Utah, walked beside the Uinta Mountains and about to head into the Wasatch Range. Utah is beautiful. The people, the scenery, everything. Thank you to everyone who has supported me in some way. From the honks and waves from truckers to a few bucks to a bed and a roof, it all means so much and gets me closer to the Pacific.

Hello Chris. I met you at the McKenzie Pass at the Dee Wright Observatory. I took your picture in front of the Elevation sign. Glad you had good weather yesterday, although, today is not so great at all. I'm thinking of you. I know people who have and still are challenged with depression and anxiety. Thank you for caring about this challenging condition. I admire you for your both your physical and mental strength as well as courage in this amazing accomplishment. My friend and I hope this money will help you with some comfort along the way, as well as for your giving. LOVE max and shah

Hi Chris! My son and I talked to you when you were coming down Big Cottonwood Canyon in Utah. Just checking in on your progress and you're almost there! Good luck with the weather the last little bit. Be safe!

I was worried about all the rain heading our way and if it would delay your travels. We still hope to meet you when you are in the Albany/Corvallis area. Stay safe and dry! Sue and Dean Kuntz (and Mike!)

I've enjoyed following your journey on social media - Truly inspiring! Congratulations on your monumental feat (and feet) and thanks for raising awareness for anxiety & depression. Once you get to the Pacific, take a hard left. You've got a place to crash in Chico, CA.
