Help OCAW End Captivity

Donation protected

Help us continue our important work for animals in captivity!

We are working incredibly hard at all levels of government to help animals in zoos and aquariums - from the Municipal level all the way to the Federal level.
(Toronto Zoo)

Unfortunatley,  because laws pertaining to animal welfare in Ontario (and Canada as a whole) are quite substandard, we strongly feel that the best way to create positive/productive change for animals is through strenghtening or implemeting animal welfare legislation at all levels of government.

Because we feel that education is also a very crucial component in creating a paradigm shift in people's perceptions of animals held in zoos and aquariums, we also tend to greatly focus on this as well. We do so by going into schools and educating children with several different educational tools as well as holding events such as educational symposiums where people can have the opportunity to speak to not only ourselves, but also learn from experts in a particular field relating to animals.

Ontario Captive Animal Watch was instrumental in working with our Provincial Government (alongside many other experts and organizations)  to develop never before implemented Standards of Care for Marine Mammals as well as; the "Orca Ban" which was added to the OSPCA Standards of Care 60/90

We are currently working alongside other organizations with the City of Toronto to develop a new By-law involving prohibiting "Mobile Zoos" within the City as well as; travelling back and fourth to our Nations Capital to speak to Senate Bill S-203 - a Bill to prohibit any further breeding and importation of cetaceans within Canada.

Ontario Captive Animal Watch also consults and works  with several world renowned scientists to discuss species specific needs to further assist us in being as informed as we possibly can with the initiatives we take to help animals.

Our Board is comprised of a select group of professionals who specialize in: Law, Animal Enforcement, Veterinary Medicine and Education.

As you can imagine, all of this is an incredible amount of work but we wouldn't have it any other way.

We need your help for some of the following costs:

*Travelling costs to attend government meetings.

*Travelling costs to continue our documentation of facilities that hold captive wildlife in Ontario.

*Printing costs for numerous and lenghty documents and photographs which are often handed out to government officials.

*Educational materials for children

Thank you for your continuing support!
