Oboe d'Amore - Documentary

Oboe d’amore (Oboe of love):

My name is Enrico Ventrice, I’m an Italian documentary filmmaker and producer. I currently live and work in New York City.
I met Camilla Guasti by chance a few months ago. We became good friends and after some time, she told me this amazing story.
Camilla is the granddaughter of Enrico Guasti, a Florentine artisan who crafted oboes d’amore and also oboes and clarinets. He owned a small workshop and produced only a few but exceptional instruments. He eventually became well known overseas, thanks to a famous American musician who admired his talent and chose to play his oboes.
Unfortunately, Camilla never knew her grandfather, who died about a year before she was born. When he died, the workshop eventually closed, but the prestige and the reputation that he achieved in the States remained unaltered.
Camilla has never seen her grandfather’s instruments.
She simply heard about them from her uncle Roberto (a musician and son of Enrico) who used to own a Guasti clarinet, that was eventually stolen when Camilla was still a child.
When Roberto found out that she was leaving for the United States, he asked her to try to find one of the instruments crafted by her grandfather. He gave her a few names of Americans whom he met in Florence back in the days, when the Guasti workshop was still active. But, after 40 years or so, Roberto had lost all contacts with them: he had no addresses nor telephone numbers.
With nothing more than a few names at hand, Camilla decided to start her search.
She is determined to find at least one instrument crafted by her grandfather and, hopefully, bring it back to her uncle.
I learned about this amazing story and decided to help her in her quest. Moreover, the story truly inspired me to start the making of this documentary.
I hope it had inspired you as well and, perhaps, encourage you to help us in our search and to share this beautiful story.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Enrico Ventrice

Oboe d’amore:
