A Day for Grace in NYC: Create Film

Tax deductible
'A Day For Grace' is a powerful and moving stage play about mental health that has toured the country to virtually unanimous acclaim.

This June, a one-off performance for a select audience of A-list directors, writers, actors, producers and Oscar®-nominees will decide its potential to be made into a feature film - bringing its message of hope to millions.

Our invitation-only audience at MIST in Harlem, NYC, comprises many of those responsible for continuing the conversation about mental health through movies such as Love and Mercy, Time Out of Mind, and others. This performance in NYC is their opportunity to decide consideration of this project.

The conversation around mental health is changing - slowly. Those who suffer from these challenges, their families, and their friends, are just beginning to emerge from the shadows and shed the stigma - partly thanks to the wider audience that is seeing movies of this caliber, and the recognition that almost every one of us knows someone who has struggled with mental health.

This 'A Day for Grace' performance headlines an event for the national effort Campaign to Change Direction.

Founder and President Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, named as one of TIME Magazine's '100 Most Influential People In The World', and the Friends of Change Direction will be hosting.

Started five years ago, 'A Day for Grace' came together as a collaboration of Doug Vincent's writing and music from Sam Llanas (formerly of BoDeans). With the aide of music director and director Gary Tanin, the trio set out to incorporate music from Sam's solo album 'A Good Day to Die' into Doug's play about his father's suicide, and becoming a father himself.

The extraordinary script and music of the stage performance has been described by reviewers as "A powerful piece of work, not to be missed" and "Ingenious, brilliant and poignant".

Doug and Sam have performed in cities across the country inspiring change, helping people to talk about what is usually unspoken and giving hope to those who feel they are alone.

At the most recent performance, in the small town of Longmont, Colorado, over 550 people turned out to see the play - and to discuss how to create a better environment within the community for those with mental health challenges. Ongoing 'community conversations' have ensured that the play's impact continues to be felt, months later.

'A Day for Grace' is a production of Boulder StoryHealers.  Boulder StoryHealers is under the fiscal sponsorship of the Colorado Mental Wellness Network. All funds raised will be used to cover expenses for travel for ADFG cast and crew, performance fees, and expenses for the venue for this amazing opportunity.
