Fellow broadcasters, can we encourage the encouragers and help our fellow broadcasters in Wilmington, NC?  

I am Bill Sammons, station manager at The Bridge radio serving Delaware, Maryland and the eastern shore of Virginia.  I met Matt Wall at the Christian Music Broadcasters conference in Florida in early September, neither of us knowing what was just days ahead for Matt's group of stations in Wilmington, NC.   Hurricane Florence pounded them for days, knocking them off the air, damaging homes of their team members, and negatively impacting this non-profit, listener-supported station financially.  

As I broadcaster, I can't imagine having to face what they have been through, and knowing that they can't stop serving their devastated community to ask for financial gifts to meet their operating needs as originally planned.  I asked Matt if I could set up a GoFundMe account to ask other broadcasters to step up and help.  The CMB has graciously agreed to support the effort with a gift and I am asking if you can do the same...either personally or through your station.

Hurricane Florence was a powerful and long-lived Cape Verde hurricane that caused severe and extensive damage in the Carolinas in September 2018, primarily as a result of freshwater flooding.  The effects were devastating and will be long-lasting, impacting thousands of people, businesses, and other organizations.

The ministry of Carolina Christian Radio has been based in Wilmington, NC for the past 25 years. CCR serves the Southeastern North Carolina Coastal Region with 3 Christian radio stations. Life 90.5 FM, The Dove 89.7 FM and The Word 88.5 FM. Carolina Christian Radio serves the Carolina Coast by providing encouragement and connection to the Body of Christ, promoting local concerts, promoting the events and the work of local churches.

From Matt:  God is using the staff of CCR to provide vital connections to resources for people in need in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. This disaster to the Carolina Coast region is both wide spread and long term. In fact, with Hurricane Florence long gone, it has now become a "silent" disaster. There are regions of the Carolina Christian Radio listening areas that have continued to flood from the North East Cape Fear River, the Black river, and the Lumber River. The clean up and recovery will go on for more than a year.

Those in the listener supported Christian radio community understand that the fall season is vitally important to fundraising efforts. The gap goal for Carolina Christian Radio's fall fundraising is $120,000. The original date for the on air Share a Thon was October 15th. The entire staff of Carolina Christian Radio agrees that this is too soon to remove our on air focus from local relief efforts to fundraising for the ministry. We are not sure yet how to go forward. This is uncharted territory.

A $60,000 source of unexpected income coming from members of the CMB community would be a tremendous encouragement to the entire team at CCR and permit the team to focus on serving their community and not on fundraising at this time. 


We are very thankful for friends in Christian radio who have already stepped forward with $2000 in donations for the personal needs of 2 families of CCR team members who have suffered total losses of their homes due to flooding. 

Please prayerfully consider a gift to help Carolina Christian Radio and their team to stay on the air, serving their community, as the clean up from Hurricane Florence continues.
