Today, I want to ask you to help my mom. It is my first time to tell everything and ask help from other people. I have never spoken this in Korea because of my mom’s safety.
Before I start, I apologize I can’t be totally open about my mom’s name, picture and where she is now. Please don’t mention any information about my mom if you know anything about her (real name, her previous business, where she lives, how she looks like…anything). And please don’t make any gossip about her. This is all related to my mom’s safety. Please accept my apology for this. Thank you for understanding.
She came to China in 2003 as a cultural missionary. China has opened up wider than before but it is still a communist country. My mom had a vision of bringing Christian books and supplies to China but we couldn’t get a business license for one year. The Chinese government didn’t want to give license to foreigners because they know it is very hard to control Christian content after allowing the import of international books.
One day, my pastor introduced us to one businessman. He helped many missionary pastors after he gave his life to Jesus. He suggested using his name to get a business license. It was not about doing business together, it means only lend his name to get a business license. My mom got the license after few months. We are supposed to make an agreement to prove he is not involved in management and he does not own that business. But we didn’t sign any papers like those. We trusted him too much. This was our huge mistake.
(I will call that business partner ‘Jin’ from here)
There was the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Jin excessively invested in his company and loaned a lot of money to grow his company during that time (he owned publishing company.) He loaned big money from the bank. He also loaned big money from 3rd finance authority, which is the Chinese mafia. He was blind with avarice. I don’t know how much money loaned from them but I know it was a lot!
But the economic shock stroke all over the world after the Beijing Olympics. Exchange rate went up to triple than before. Jin’s company couldn't survive from economic shock. His company went bankrupt. He became a fugitive from Chinese mafia.
After a few months, he finally got caught and he suggested this to the Chinese mafia. He told them since he can’t pay back money, he can make money if they accept him as a Chinese mafia member.
He habitually extorted money from missionary pastors and Christian business that he helped before. He committed an act of brutality more and more and more. He reported an underground church and forced them to close the church if pastor didn’t give him money.
My mom was one of his victims. Jin took my mom’s business because we didn’t make any agreement. So it was perfectly his business on papers. He made fake debt certificate to my mom and changed his name to my mom’s name on his debt certificate. He threatened to kill me and my sister for my mom to sign with her thumbprint on the debt certificate. He took my mom’s passport and gave bribe to immigration to put my mom’s name on the blacklist, barred from leaving China. It was 300,000 Chinese yuan at that time (approximately $67,000 Canadian dollar) but I don’t know how much it is now because 3rd finance authority uses the compound interest method.
She didn’t tell me and my sister for our safety. She told me 3 years after it happened. She tried to hide from him but it doesn’t work in Beijing. She decided to move to other city. She moved and he found her. She moved again and he found her again. So she moved to different cities every couple month for more than 3 years. During those 3 years, I contacted her once in couple month through email. She was totally alone at that season. I can’t imagine her life at that time. I don’t know how terrified she was. But she told me, God always helped her every moment after those 3 years.
Eventually, she settled down in one city but she can’t use her real name. She doesn’t want to be social. She can’t go outside if there is regulation period of illegal alien. It is almost 5 years now.
My mom chose to forgive Jin in her heart!
My mom chose to stay in His peace.
My mom chose to love people.
But my mom’s health was getting worst and worst.
My mom is checked in to the hospital now because she couldn’t breathe properly. The doctor said he can’t do medical treatment because her heart, liver, and kidneys are very weak. He guesses it might be lung cancer. This is her second cancer if he is right.
The doctor sucked almost 2 liters of water out from her lungs but it keeps generating water. The test result is getting worst and worst. The doctor is asking her to make a decision as soon as possible between getting surgeries in China or get the surgery back in Korea. But she can’t decide between both of them. First, she needs a guardian. Second, and the biggest problem, is that she has to use her real name if she gets the surgery in China. The Chinese medical system belongs to the government. It means Jin can find her if she uses her real name in the hospital. She is still on the blacklist so she obviously, can’t pass immigration to go back to Korea.
So I think there is only one thing I can do. Go to China and find Jin and give him principal 300,000 Chinese yuan, approximately $67,000 Canadian dollar, to finish all this situation. I don’t know if it will work or not. I just want to move my step with faith.
