Paul Foxwell Express Freight Fund

£2,578 of £5,000 goal

Raised by 49 people in 35 months

We are the Wagon Group at the Nene Valley Railway (NVR), a volunteer-run heritage steam railway near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. We volunteer our time to repair and restore the vintage 1950's British Railways (BR) wagon fleet based at the railway, so that the visiting public can experience the sights and sounds of a steam-hauled goods train exactly as it was during the 1950's-60's period. Examples of our previously completed wagon restoration projects, along with much else besides, can be found on our website,

Our current main project, "Express Freight", aims to restore most of the railway's extensive collection of 1950's box vans, which ran at faster speeds and were often hauled by glamorous passenger locomotives as well as mixed-traffic and freight designs. The NVR is the only heritage railway in the UK where a realistically long block train of these vans can be recreated, as over twenty of these vehicles are based at our railway.

Above: a typical project before we begin.....
.......and below, after receiving our care and attention!

Our initial appeal of £100 to buy the remaining materials to complete the restoration of 1961-built BR box van B768075 has now been achieved. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. We would now like to keep this fund running long-term, in order to support restoration of further wagons in the NVR collection to keep adding to the authentic 1950's-60's goods train, but more importantly in dedication to Paul Foxwell, founder member of the Wagon Group.

Paul founded the Wagon Group in 2010 with fellow volunteer Tim Hobman, and joined by others, Paul worked tirelessly to advance wagon restoration at Nene Valley.

For those of you who know Paul and those who recognise his outstanding achievements, I ask you to give generously to allow his vision of Express Freight to be realised and his legacy live on.

Today has been such a sad day, but also one of extreme generosity.

The total now stands at £1,210!

A massive thank you to everyone who has donated. It is truly overwhelming.

We hope that everyone who has donated will stay connected with our Facebook page and check in on our progress. Once our goal is achieved we would like to publicly thank everyone with a gathering at NVR and the possibility of prizes that money can't buy!!!

Please keep giving and checking in on our updates.
