We are a team of Somalis, from Somalia and the Somali diaspora who are conducting a fundraiser for Guled , a 13-year old boy genius. Guled is a self-taught inventor, who began creating cars and planes from an early age. Without any formal education, Guled taught himself how to create vehicles and motorise them, an incredible feat for a boy born into poverty. International media outlets as diverse as the BBC , Mashable and Global Voices have covered his amazing story. But we cannot allow, Guled’s story to just be that- a story. With access to the world class education he deserves, Guled can see his dream come true of becoming a mechanical engineer. Together, we can make a difference in Guled’s life but we need your help!
Guled has been offered a spot at the prestigious Abaarso School in Hargeisa, Somaliland which is arguably the best science and technology school in the region. Graduates from the Abaarso School have gone on to universities like Harvard and MIT and have been profiled in international media outlets including the acclaimed New York Times . While the Abaarso School has been very generous in bringing Guled in on a scholarship, Guled’s mother needs our financial support to fund their move to Hargeisa and to support her life there.
We are raising $850 and are appealing to international donors to assist us with this. While Guled is away at the Abaarso School, his mother is planning on moving to and live in Hargeisa for the year to faciliate his transition to the school. We are currently budgeting to assist his mother for one year This money will go towards supporting Guled’s mother's food, and medical expenses. We are committed to absolute transparency with this campaign, and will keep you abreast of developments and ultimately, how the money is spent. Below is a breakdown, of how the money will be used:
