Nick is 10 years old he has had 2 shunts put in and has been deaf since birth (at birth nick had a stroke during his birth. we was born at only 29 weeks gustation. We finally got the dr. (Dr. Wendell Todd) to approve Nick for a cochlear implant but my insurance does not cover this procedure . With all the medical bills that come along with the surgeries he has had a total of 5 surgeries since birth. All we are trying to do is let our son hear what he is missing out on .
Nick over the past 10 years has had to learn in school without this hearing but the school system in Leesburg Ga is great and has supplied him with a wonderful sign language teacher whom has helped him a lot . He has been fighting a Chiari Malformation that has taken its toll on him but he keeps bouncing back he is a fighter he wont give up. All he wants is to hear his Mothers' voice, his twin sisters' voice, and all that God has created so please help Nick in his journey.
His Doctors are : DR. Wendell Todd, DR. Andrew Reisner both with the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and DR. Jolie Fainberg atlanta speech school.
Nicks surgeries to date are listed below:
Surgery #1 :2005 at 6 months of age Nick had Double Hernia surgery
Surgery #2: 2006 at 18 months of age Nick was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus which caused him to have massive headaches which required his first shunt being put into place on the right side of his head
Surgery # 3: 2007 Nicks had to have the second shunt be put in due to the left side of his head not draining properly, causing too much pressure in his head causing bad headaches again.
Surgery # 4: 2009 Nick had to have a device called a Bolt placed into his head checking for pressure reading because Nick started having more very bad headaches once again. The doctors had to drill a hole into Nicks head so they could screw this device into so it would be held in place for 24 hours.
Surgery # 5: 2011 Nick had to have a Third Ventriculostomy due to a blockage in his third Ventricle causing the fluid to not flow to the shunts to be drained properly again causing him to have very bad headaches due to the pressure building up.
Besides being deaf still Nick has a Chairi Malformation that causing him to be sick throwing up a lot having trouble with his balance and running high fever. Nick has missed many school days due to his condition keeping him down.
in the picture below you see his mother by his bed side at the hospital waiting the doctors who are trying to get the Chari Malformation to ease up enough so that Nick can keep food down. This condition takes a very big toll from Nick keeping him from having a normal childhood.
ALL donations will go to nothing but the surgery we are seeking for our son Nick. If we don't reach our goal we will put what donations we receive towards his surgery as a down payment and we will continue to make payments until we reach our goal.
