Dracut House of Pizza & Seafood Restaurant-Project Helping Hands’ community effort began in 1994 with 6 volunteers helping to assemble and deliver 30 complete Thanksgiving Dinner baskets to families in our local area. Twenty years later, due to the escalating need and our own personal quest to reach out and help more families within the Merrimack Valley area, we have grown to over 400 volunteers who assembled and delivered 2,000 baskets to needy families in 2014. To date, Project Helping Hands has fed approximately 15,500 families at Thanksgiving. This year marks our 23rd anniversary and the number of families needing our help has not diminished, especially with the current economic crisis. Our goal is to assemble, deliver, and feed 2,000 families in the local area.
As the season changes from summer to fall, our volunteers begin to contact us at Project Helping Hands knowing the time is quickly approaching for the project to come together. It is a phenomenal event. Volunteers bring their children and their parents. They bring their neighbors, co-workers, and friends. The project is energized by word of mouth. Everyone wants to get involved and help out with this “family” project. Long hours are put into contacting vendors, arranging and picking up food products for the baskets, cross-referencing recipient lists, assembling the baskets with all the non-perishable food items, and lastly, delivering the baskets to our deserving families.
Since this community project has grown dramatically over the years, we decided to form a foundation for greater outreach to the community not only at Thanksgiving but all through the year. Our foundation is comprised of an all-volunteer board of directors who are excited about the opportunities and challenges that will be presented for our help. The Manolis Family Foundation can now expand its goal to include providing food, financial aid, and scholarships to individuals and families in need within our community. A simple, heartfelt thought 22 years ago by one family has turned into a community outreach organization that hopes to give a helping hand with respect and compassion to those experiencing personal hardship.
Project Helping Hands would not be possible without the generosity and support our communities show during this time of giving. This year, the need for support is even greater due to the current economic crisis that has greatly affected our area, as well as the increase in price of food items. Your welcomed tax-deductible monetary donation is urgently needed to help those families that are less fortunate at this time. On behalf of Manolis Family Foundation, Inc. – Project Helping Hands and Dracut House of Pizza & Seafood Restaurant, we would like to thank you for your anticipated support of our community project. Our past history shows that when we work together, we DO make a difference. We wish you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Manolis Family Foundation, Inc.
