"Cory's Door" at SAEC

The Southern AB Equine Centre Society (formerly the Westwind Rodeo Academy) is a facility located in Cardston, AB dedicated to the education of horse people in the area for various different equestrian events. They facilitate learning experiences for everyone from children to seniors, from rodeo events, to show horses, to vaulting.
On January 17, 2016 I lost something very special to me: the one and only "Drop Dead Fred" aka Cory. He had been my show jumper (to 1.15m), a snub horse, a carriage horse, been on set for some movies/TV shows, been my trail horse, a babysitter, a lesson/lease horse for many other riders, an outriding horse at Fraser Downs in Cloverdale BC and Alberta Downs in Lacombe AB for my best friend Christa, but ultimately he was my friend. Due to a rare form of metastasized strep equi (strangles) as a secondary infection to Equine Influenza, he was taken from me much too soon. This was nobody's fault, but did bring to our attention some improvements that could be made to the facility to aid in future quarantine situations.
The board of directors for the Southern AB Equine Centre Society has been incredible through this entire ordeal, and very proactive on their stance to make this a safe place for everyone's animals. I would like to help fundraise the money needed to add a separate entrance for public horses, so that public traffic does not have to access the arena through the barn area, which would help limit the spread of any infectious disease (no matter how serious) and to allow us to quarantine anything that is on the property if necessary.
For me, this separate entrance will forever be "Cory's Door", as I am sad he is gone, but hope that in his departure he has helped to make this a safer building for horses in the future. I don't want the board to have to try to come up with this money alone, and I hope that we can all offer them some sort of support moving forward, because they are trying to make every possible effort to limit the spreading of any disease in the future no matter how big or small. I am proud to call these people my friends, as they have all been there for me in an incredibly difficult time.
