NOLA Alphas Impact Tornado Fund
Eleven years ago, the City of New Orleans and our brothers were devestated by Hurricane Katrina. In August of last year, flooding impacted brothers and others in neighboring Baton Rouge. In both devastating events, Alpha Men in New Orleans stood tall and worked to help those impacted get back on their feet.
Tuesday, February 7, an EF-3 tornado ripped through New Orleans East and brought destruction to thousands once again. We know of at least one brother who completely lost a home, but all know multiple families who need help.
Because Alpha Men run to the fire, we are once again calling on our family and friends to help us raise money for tornado relief in New Orleans. Funds raised will be distributed to families who lost homes in the tornado to help cover costs such as: initial living expenses like food and clothing, as well as needs associated with clearing and repairing damaged homes.
Since 1925, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has developed leaders in the City of New Orleans who have made incredible impact in the community. Our Brothers are great men, father, and leaders. Today New Orleans has one Alumni Chapter (Sigma Lambda) and six College Chapters (Beta Phi - Dillard, Beta Tau - Xavier, Epsilon Upsilon - SUNO, Rho Epsilon - Loyola, Rho Iota - Tulane, and Theta Phi - UNO). We are also proud to have two other Alumni Chapters in the Greater New Orleans Area.

Thank you all again for your support of this relief campaign. We were blown away by the support in donations and time. Together we raised over $1700 that will impact three families impacted by the tornado and mobilized over 200 volunteers in the immediate aftermath. In partnership with Catholic Charities of New Orleans, we identified families who did not have insurance and whose federal assistance was pending. The first recipient is an elderly lady who was being temporarily housed at a Relax Inn until temporary assistance ran out. She transitioned into an apartment and funds donated to her is being used for appliances. The second recipient is a single mother with a sixteen year old son who was not eligible for FEMA assistance because she was living with another homeowner. Catholic Charities supported with relocation support for permanent housing. Funds donated to this recipient is also helping with appliances and furniture. The final recipient is a husband and father of two young kids. Funds are helping this family during a tough transition as their home is rebuilt.
Thank you all again for your generosity and support of our relief efforts.
