NoHA BiOS Folding House Development

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Richard, and I've designed and constructed a folding house. I need your help to complete the prototype, in order to progress the development of the concept towards an affordable, sustainable and accesible housing and lifestyle solution.

Those that stand to benefit from this project are people for whom conventional housing has become too expensive, people who want to live a lifestyle with lower environmental impact, and people affected by natural or man-made disasters. The vision for the project is to make the design available firstly as a DIY plan set, secondly as a flat-pack kit that can be easily assembled with minimum skill and manpower, and lastly as a fully assembled unit. The design has been optimised for minimum cost and complexity, while still providing a double-storey structure with enough sheltered space for a family.

The ultimate goal is to make a totally self-sufficient and easily transportable housing unit - replete with solar-powered water generator, composting toilet and rooftop vegetable garden - so that people can live off-grid just about anywhere... whether by choice or out of necessity.

I have funded the construction of the prototype with my own savings - which amounts to around £17,000 so far - but I do not have enough left to buy the materials needed to complete the shell of the structure. The windows will need to be made from polycarbonate, a strong and light material, but this is quite expensive. Although I have refined the design to reduce the number of windows as far as possible, the polycarbonate required will cost approximately £3,000. Other than that, insulation panels and fibreglass materials will be needed to complete the shell, as well as some timber and various fixings and adhesives. Any additional funds will go towards the construction of the bathroom, kitchen counter and rooftop garden.

I hoped to be able to complete this project under my own funding, with the remainder raised through running a Kickstarter campaign - which I did in November last year, but which was unfortunately unsuccessful - so I'd really appreciate any donations, no matter how small, to help me complete the prototype with a view to making it as easily accessible and widely available as possible for use by individuals and by humanitarian organisations.

Thank you in advance!
