NLG Opens the Door to Education
No Lost Generation AU is fundraising to open the doors to secondary education, and provide a scholarship to a refugee student.
We are providing this scholarship through Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, an organization that works to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugee populations globally.
Why Education?
According to the UNHCR:
Only 22% of refugee students are able to enroll in secondary education, compared to 84% global but we want to help increase that percentage.
However, we know just as the UNHCR does that "education protects, education empowers, [and] education enlightens."
No Lost Generation AU has chosen to fundraise for education as we firmly believe that education is the best way to provide normalcy, stability, and hope during times of conflict. It is also core to our mission. Education is what allows a child to continue to grow and prosper. Years without education means years of delay-- a lost generation.
Thus, an education is integral to a positive quality of life, safety, order and peace. We are working hard this season to help provide that.
$1000 is able to enroll one refugee student in secondary education, but we need your help to make that happen.
-------------------
Our fundraising campaign will run until November 12th, 2018, concluding after our 3rd Annual Winter Gala on November 10th.
All ticket sales from the gala will fill unused backpacks, each costing $25 (two tickets), in addition to the profits from this fundraiser that will separately fund the secondary education scholarship.
We hope you can join us on November 10th, and we hope that you will join us in the fight to ensure that no generation is ever lost again, especially as a result of lack of education.
Gratefully,
No Lost Generation at American University
