No One Fights Alone - Please Help!

Donation protected
My Dear Friends, Family and Co-Workers,

We have all been very touched by a recent Cervical Cancer story and are looking for your help in assisting this family with funds to pay for medical treatment bills.  We had set a goal of $4,000 to be raised in the next 30 days to help Stefanie pay off her existing medical bills.

Stefanie (right on the picture) has recently been diagnosed with Cervical Cancer and Cori (on the left), her lovely sister, has been reaching out to all her family and friends to find ways to help her sister, a true sister’s love gesture! Cori wrote to all of us a little bio you can read below and find all the details on their story.

Cori is a good friend, co worker, Assistant Manager of Shoppers Drug Mart #1220 in Markham who loves so very much her sister Stef. We decided to take action and put together this fundraising campaign. This shows to them, they are not alone and don’t need to fight alone!

Please help by making your donation today! Just click on the yellow campaign bar bellow in the end of the page.

We appreciate so very much your support and thank you in advance for your contribution.

Priscilla Luna, Bhavika Prajapati & Mimi Lam.

BIO:
In December 2015, my thirty two year old sister Stefanie Davidge was diagnosed with cervical cancer.  Cervical cancer contains four stages just as any other form of cancer would, however, each stage is divided into sub-stages through the use of letters and numbers.

My sister Stefanie was diagnosed with stage 1B2 cervical cancer, the final sub-stage before reaching stage 2.  The treatment plan for each patient is determined based on what sub-stage of cervical cancer they are in.  The treatment plan appointed to my sister was a very aggressive one.  Doctors decided that it would be best for my sister to undergo both internal and external radiation as well as chemo therapy.  After careful consideration, her 7 week treatment plan consisted of 5 internal radiation appointments, 28 external radiation appointments and 5 one and a half hour sessions of chemo therapy.

Hearing this information about my sister was devastating not only to her but to our entire family.  Due to the fact that my sister has yet to start a family of her own, finding out about her having cervical cancer really resonated with us.  When my family was told that her treatment plan would consist of radiation therapy, every single one of our hearts crippled.   Our hearts crippled as we knew that the radiation treatment would completely disturb her ovaries, killing off every one of her last fertile eggs.  This was more challenging to accept then finding out about the cancer itself.

Before starting her treatment plan, my sister was lucky enough to work with a fertility specialist in hopes that one day having a family could be an option for her and her husband.  Her first appointment with the fertility specialist was on Christmas Day.  She worked with the fertility specialist for about a month (from the end of December to the end of January) until her cancer couldn’t wait any longer for its treatment.  In the month leading up to her treatment, my sister had to inject herself with hormone medication to simply speed up her ovulation process.  These hormone injections allow women to ovulate and produce eggs faster than what their bodies are usually capable of.  In most cases women produce about 25 eggs after their hormone injections take place.  Unfortunately in my sister’s case, she was only able to produce 8 eggs.  On the fourth week, the fertility specialist extracted those 8 eggs with faith that they could become embryos for surrogacy down the road.  After impatiently waiting a few days the fertility specialist broke news to us that her first seven eggs were unsuccessfully fertilized.  This news was heartbreaking as my sister only had one last chance at having a biological family.  Once her last egg was fertilized, my family impatiently waited another few days, but this time to find out the best news of all.  My sister’s egg was now an embryo!!!  Though my sister’s chances at starting a family have been limited due to unforeseen circumstances, our family deeply believes that her one embryo is truly a miracle.

I’m sure several of you question why I have shared this story publicly, but it is because my sister needs your assistance.  Despite everything she has gone through already, she now has a fee of $4000.00 to pay off.  This fee enabled my sister to administer herself hormone injections and work with the fertility specialist.  At the time, she was told that the pharmaceutical company would reimburse her for that money, but unfortunately they are now unable to do so.  My sister’s insurance plan does not cover fertility procedures and medication.  I’m sharing this information with you as I thought it would be nice to initiate a fundraiser on her behalf to assist with the money she owes for her hormone injection medication.  With the help of three amazing and very special ladies; Priscilla Luna, Mimi Lam and Bhavika Prajapati, we hope to make this fundraiser a great success.  These ladies are people I work with at Shoppers Drug Mart on a full time basis and they have willingly offered their help to support my sister and myself.  There will never be enough words to say or actions to show how grateful and appreciative I am to have these three women in my life.  Lastly, my deepest appreciation and gratitude goes out to those who have shown their support through this difficult time.  This process has not been an easy one, but by the end of my sisters 7 week treatment plan, doctors are optimistic that she will be cancer free!!!  So don’t frown just yet because my strong, brave and courageous sister has much to look forward to, as do we!
