A Safe Home for the Cats & Dogs of Bira
It's dangerous in the village for stray dogs. They are feared and thought to be dirty by many of the traditional locals. One puppy, Rocky, was brought to us at four days old as his mother had been murdered and left with all the puppies around her.
The stray cats are a pest to the locals as the population and breeding is out control. We have 9 currently, all loveable, beautiful and happy. Yesterday our beloved Custard, the newest member of our pack died in an unfortunate accident. He fell off the balcony of our home as he was playing.
We think it's time we do this properly and put more attention and focus in to their surroundings. With the help from fellow animal lovers we'd like to build a modest shelter for our cats Medusa, Warrior, Princess, Anita, Alien, Andrew, Raggy, Blister and Foxy. And our dogs Django and Rocky and hopefully we can be there for any more waifs, strays and orphans that need our help!
Thank you so much.

We have had a rough past few weeks, lots of tragedy and some new additions. As you all know we had most of our critters neutered, and some of you may know two girls got bad infections afterwards. Warrior was strong enough to fight it off (with a lot of diligent cleaning, dressing and medicine forcing from us) but our poor poor poor little Foxy came back from the "vets" in Makassar even worse than when we rushed her there. She passed away a few days later in a great deal of pain. Devestatingly a day after her brother Ragdoll, and little friend Andi died from a terrible sickness. We think they may have eaten something bad out of the garden or jungle. So I don't think I have cried so much as in those two days... :(
But we are still focused, and still helping our little feline buddies. People from the village know we look after animals now, so we've have three more tiny kittens been brought to us in the past few weeks. Jon Ralphio was found at the harbour all alone an brought to us by some friends at the dive school. Pippy was in the middle of the road with some plastic tied around her about to be squashed by a car. Our friend Alain scooped her up... Then two days ago a skinny little chicken looking thing, David Bowie, arrived on our doorstep with our friend Fab.
If anyone could spare a few quid for these kittens, it'd be very well received!! Dot forget to share our plight with your friends.

P.S Take a look at Kassandra's Mobile Hairdressing on Facebook for a chance to enter the raffle for a free cut and colour. All proceeds go to Bira Cats & Dogs :-)
With the money we've already raised we've managed to sterilise ten cats and one dog. It was very scary, with the vets performing the operations on the balcony at Cosmos. But it was a great step in the right direction.
We rescued another puppy, little Cally. He is a sweetheart. His destiny was to be dumped in the jungle and hope for the best but now he has joined our crew and is fitting in so well. When he's bigger we will get him sterilised also...
Thanks again to everyone, please keep sharing and passing our plight on to anyone you may know who'd like to help.

We've been featured in our local paper. Look online at the Westmorland Gazette or The Citizen. Hopefully we'll get a few more quid from people who don't use social media... Everyone show your cat loving gran!!
Medusa had her babies in the night (in our bedroom!!) So that's our total up to 13 cats. BUT finally we're corresponding with a vet who lives in Bali who is going to come stay with us and sterilise as many critters as possible.
We couldn't have done this without the help and cash you all have sent so we are so thankful. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart to you all for the donations, sharing and getting involved. Big thanks to Kass for the awesome idea of raising money through a raffle prize! You can enter at www.facebook.com/kassandrasmobilehairdressing!
Our oldest cat, the beautiful Medusa, is pregnant again with her second litter. So, please keep sharing and passing on our plight to anyone you may know who could help! We are so keen to get vets over here to carry out the all important sterilisations. Which does not come cheap!
Here's some pics of her with her babies. She did make a very good wet nurse also for the little gingeys that we're dumped in our garden!
Thanks so much,
