Nick’s Aussie Driver Shootout Fund

$3,755 of $4,950 goal

Raised by 48 people in 15 months
I have an incredible opportunity to compete in the Aussie Driver Search to win a FULLY PAID, full season ride for 2019 to race professionally in the Australian Dunlop Super2 Series (V8 Supercars Development Series).

In 2013, I was able to accomplish a goal and dream of mine by beating over 400,000 sim racing drivers to win Nissan’s GT Academy program in 2013 and race professionally for a couple of years until our racing program ended 2015. I don't have the means to fund my own racing and have since been fighting to gather sponsorship with my sights on getting back in a racecar and getting back on top of the podium to make my dream a reality all over again!

An overview of the competition and how it works:

Process: Drive of a V8 Supercar, V8 Utes Series and Toyota 86 Racing Series Race Cars with a 1 in 3 chance of moving onto the finale free of charge.

Prize: Fully paid ride in the 7-round, 2019 Dunlop Super2 Series.

Funding Deadline: The $2,000 deposit amount was reached for February 10th, 2018! The total of $4,950 amount deadline is due April, 26th.

The $4,950 will be used to cover the entry fee and travel to get me on a plane to Australia and back behind the wheel of a racecar where I can do what I do best!

I have a huge love and passion for motorsports and my goal is to do more than just drive a racecar, but to be an employee and ambassador for the sport along with the teams and sponsors I will potentially work for in the future. This is a huge opportunity and it would mean everything to me if you could please like, love, share, and donate if possible to make this a reality!

A huge thank you in advance to everyone who plays a part in supporting me and this goal!

Now that Christmas and New Years has settled down, here is a quick write up on my last and final trip from a couple weeks back to Australia for the Aussie Driver Search Pro finale shootout. With basically no seat time this year, I didn’t expect to make it to the top 10 shootout out of 80 drivers and surprised myself to do so. I gave it my all and walked away happy knowing I left it all on the table.

The destination was Wakefield Park around 2 hours south of Sydney. A small track and facility but packed a good bunch of fun. Never having been, I ran my first laps for the first round of the day in a Toyota GT86 which was a perfect car to get used to the track. I spent some time on my simulator at home practicing so I at least knew which way was left, right, etc. and to much surprise at the end of my few laps I had set the fastest time in that car of the day so far and advanced to the second round of only 30 drivers. The second round was another handful of laps but this time in a BMW 130i Hatch with no driver aids which was a little fun to play with. I didn’t feel I did a great job but the judge riding with me was pleased. With lack of seat time this year and being at a track I hadn’t driven, I was on the fence if I’d make the cut for the final 10. Much to my surprise, my name was called for the final 10 and I moved on to the best part, flogging a new V8 Supercar at full speed!

The final 10 shootout only left us with two flying laps in a new gen V8 Supercar. I had only a handful of laps in an older Supercar at a different track and absolutely zero laps in one at Wakefield, so I knew I had a challenge. Ran the first flying lap conservative and pushed on the second lap. Unfortunately tried to take some extra curbing which unexpectedly drug the car off and I went lawn mowing instead which was day over for me because we needed perfection.

At the end of the day I can’t be thankful enough to Aussie Driver Search for the opportunity and especially for everyone who pitched in to help me get here, all of the support, and all of the love. It means a lot to me.

A huge congratulations to Matt Powers for making us Americans proud and winning the whole competition though. Now that I got a taste of what victory could’ve been, I’m yearning to try and do it all over again in 2019. It’s an addiction I tell ya!

I’ve been back from Australia for a week now and am still reflecting on what an amazing opportunity it was to travel to Australia and drive a V8 Supercar. I woke up early on a Thursday morning to jump straight into a V8 Supercar which I had never driven on a track I hadn’t been to. No amount of coffee will wake you up like one of these beasts! A brutal, fun but scary ride in all the right ways. Big thanks to Aussie Driver Search for the opportunity and for everyone who helped me get there! I have moved on to the final round on December 12th at Wakefield Park to compete for a chance at a full season racing Supercars in the Dunlop Super 2 Series. Can’t wait to spend more time in one of these and be able to push it a bit harder!!

With this second trip for the finale, I do still need to cover roughly $1,300 for airfare and accommodation so any little bit of donation helps and is incredibly appreciated on my end! Fingers crossed!

Things have been a little silent around here which I apologize for, but I wanted to share a quick update!

I was supposed to go to Australia to compete back in May, but after some rescheduling with the Aussie Driver Search program, I will be headed to Melbourne, Australia to compete in the Pro Competition at Phillip Island on September 20th!

I will drive three different cars, including the V8 Supercar throughout the day. I will find out very shortly after if I qualify for the next round which will be in December for the finale. Again, thank you for your support as this opportunity wouldn't be possible without all of YOU! I will be sure to keep everyone updated as things progress!

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I don't know what to say!!! Thank you everyone so so much for helping this effort! This has been an incredibly humbling experience over the last few days and I am completely blown away with all of the shares, comments, donations, and support. This would NOT be possible without all of YOU!

The initial deposit is in and I have officially entered and reserved my spot in the Aussie Driver Search competition with plans to compete in the shootout round at Sydney Motorsport Park in May! We've still got a little ways to go to cover the remaining entry fee and expenses, but with 60% of the ultimate goal already there I'd say were on the home stretch to make it happen!!!
