Earlier today my roommate and I were out hiking Wave Cave at Superstition Mountains, we were about 1 mile through our hike when the dogs sniffed a bush right on the trail. Next thing we knew there was a snake in the middle of the trail and Nellie was yelping and bleeding. We headed back down the trail as quickly as we could and headed to an emergency vet. Turns out the bite is a rattlesnake bite, for now Nellie will be staying over night to be monitored and given anti-venom. Obviously this is a bill that Mandi didn’t expect to pay so I’m reaching out to all of you to help cover Nellie’s vet bill.

Sorry I’ve been MIA on the Nellie updates. Not much is going on, she had her eye sewn up earlier this week. They removed her eyelashes because they partly caused some drainage? I’m not really sure but they removed them. They left her other wounds open because they are happy with how they are healing on their own. Nellie has about 10 more days of cone life and then hopefully we will be back to normal. She’s getting better at being around Lo without growling but Lo is terrified of the cone and goes out of her way to avoid Nellie. I can’t wait for all this to be done and our house to go back to normal.

As of the other day when the did stitches Nellie’s vet bill was at $7500, for all the skeptics that thought we were exaggerating. Nellie hopefully only has one more appointment, when they remove the stitches in 12 ish days. Once it’s all done I’ll post a copy of all Mandi’s bills.

In the meantime Mandi made Nellie an insta @nellbellmedell go follow it and tell her to post some pics!

So when we took nel to the vet on sunday they said her wound looked really good and they weren’t going to recover it that day because they didn’t want to sedate her more than she has been so she went back again yesterday for the regular would cleaning. They decided again that they weren’t going to cover it because it looked good and she wasn’t really irritating it. So good news is tomorrow (Wednesday) they are gonna see her up. The wound will be closed, they won’t be giving her another antibiotic and as of right now she doesn’t need a skin graft. YAY! So we’ll find out tomorrow how’s much longer she’ll be wearing the cone and when she can start playing with her sister again. We are soo excited for her to be better

Ps if we made Nellie an Instagram (one eyed nellie) would people follow it?

Well right when we thought that we were gonna skip a day at the vet... Mandi wanted to pick up a shift today at work and thank god she didn’t because pretty much as soon as I got home from work Nellie’s bandage started to fall off so off to the vet we went. As soon as we got here the bandage fell off completely, I’m too afraid to look at it but Mandi says it looks really good and just like her eye is closed. We’re gonna see if there is anything else they can suggest to prevent her from knocking the cone. I know a lot of you have suggested the inflatable ecollar but we think she’d still be able to knock/irritate the bandage.

So the doctor was able to came out and talked to Mandi and said everything looks good tissue wise, the only thing is there has been rapid growth on the wound culture they took the other day, so they don’t want to close the eye yet until they know what antibiotic can treat it. He stopped the wet to dry dressings and we’ll skip tomorrow and go back in on Monday for another bandage change and they will inspect the eye and the culture again then. They used a mild sedative today and it gets out of the system faster so she should hopefully be not as out of it as she has been.
