My sister Nell has worked really hard in order to be accepted into the Dental Hygiene Bachelors of Science program at West Los Angeles College. They only accept 40 students and she is one of the lucky few. For the past months, she has been applying for scholarships and has received some but not enough.
The enrollment fee for upper-division bachelor degree program courses is $130 per unit, for California residents.
In addition to West Los Angeles College admission fees, dental hygiene students will need to purchase a professional instrument kit, textbooks, pay professional dues, malpractice insurance, as well as uniforms and other supplies. The cost for these additional items is approximately $15,000 for the first year and approximately $6,000 for the second year. Payment is due at the end of July, before the start of the fall semester, each year. The estimated total cost of the program (tuition) for California residents is approximately $ 10,000.00 for enrollment fees.
Luckily Nell has gotten scholarships to cover the 10,000 for tuition but the rest of the fees, the malpractice insurance, the dental kit, textbooks and such is still a whopping $10,000.
Please, please help my sister so she does not have to get a loan. She has worked so hard and has put so much into trying to get scholarships but she has not received any that can go towards things other than tuition and the July 26th deadline to pay for the first year is approaching quickly.
