Need to replace outdated computer.

Donation protected
Hello to all,

My name is Kurt Lang. You may recognize me as the author of Font Management in macOS .

I need your help replacing my old Mac and monitor. Both are on the fritz (not dead, but not working well, either). The Mac has developed a ground loop hum I've been able to narrow down to either a bad power supply or system board. Either way, not worth fixing for its age. The short isn't a big issue most of the time, but the Mac does things it's not supposed to at random intervals.

The 2010 Mac Pro that needs replacing can run Mojave with the upgraded video card I installed, but I seriously doubt it will meet Apple's hardware cutoff for the next release of macOS. And as noted, it's in rough shape.

Without a new computer, I won't be able to continue upgrading my article for future releases of macOS. And while I dislike asking others to  buy a new computer for me, I simply don't have the income, or funds on hand to replace it.

Would a newer, but used computer do? Sure, but I'd much rather get something new that will last for years. And more importantly, through many future releases of macOS before I need to even consider another replacement.

As for timing, funds don't appear to be critical yet. Unless my dying Mac decides to take a sudden dirt nap. Still, better to purchase a replacement sooner rather than in a panic.

Your support will, without question, be greatly appreciated. I do get lots of emails thanking me for the article, and questions I answer without requiring any type of payment. I get occasional small donations, but the total donated over time isn't anything that approaches what a new Mac costs. And besides, the pizza they occasionally buy is good! ;-)

I do want to thank everyone who has sent donations in the past. However, I've reached the point where I need a significant amount all at once.

New information: Confirmed today (6-3-2019) after Apple's WWDC. macOS Catalina drops support for the 2010 Mac Pro, even if you have an upgraded Metal capable card in it. The 2013 Mac Pro isn't worth getting because it's the minimum Mac Pro supported, which very likely means support for it will be dropped in two more years, if not next year.

The new Mac Pro is simply too expensive, even at the base price. That means the replacement is going to be a 2018 Mac Mini. Knowing that, I've lowered my goal amount.

Thank you for taking the time to read this far, and for anything you may contribute.
