Canon 80d for Film & TV student

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Zoe.

I am a 20 year old from Canberra, Australia. My biggest goal is to one day work in the film and television industry (hopefully in America). Ever since I was 5 I knew that's what I wanted to do, but I'm staring with small steps...

A bit about me:

I began studying Film and TV at a university in Melbourne last year, which cost a lot of money for me to study and live. Because of that, I have had to take a gap year this year to get a job and save up money so I can pay my rent when I go back, but I just don't have the extra money to spend on any equiptment.

I hope to gain some filming experience outside of university. I already own a Canon EOS 1100d (which is actually my dad's); it is is usable, but it is about 7 or so years old, and does not have the ability to do what I need.

Why the Canon 80d would be perfect:

-The video mode FPS can go up to 60, which means it can do amazing, clear, slow motion effects at 1080p HD.
_____
-It is wi-fi enabled, so I can see what I am filming on my phone without having to touch/ bump the camera (Because you have to look at the LCD screen when filming on a DSLR... which can suck sometimes.)
_____
-The max ISO can go to 16,000 (expandable to 25,000), which is a lot more range than the 6,400 that I own currently, meaning I can film in a broader range of lighting.
_____
- It has dual pixel CMOS Auto Focus, meaning when I film, it will continue to focus smoothly.
_____
-The max resolution goes up to 24.2, which is much clearer than my current camera, which only goes to 12.2.
_____
-You can use the LCD touchscreen to choose the main focus, even during filming (kind of like a mobile phone)
_____
And quite a lot of other neat tips and tricks that I honestly can't wait to try out!

How this will help me:

As I mentioned above, I want to do some filming outside of university. Not only will it be a hobby to play with for filming and photography, but I am currently filming for a client at the moment (although not getting paid much), and I plan to get many more filming jobs in the future. I keep having these amazing ideas for shots, which end up not being possible due to my current camera's limits. I want to show people the best I can do, and give them the quality that they've paid for, but I'm worried this might not be possible.

What your money will be going to:

This money is for the camera/ lens alone. Since I do already have a canon camera, the lenses can be interchangeable (thank god!) , but the body of the camera is what makes up a good percentage of the price. I do not plan to spend it on anything else such as a tripod, or camera bags, or accessories, etc. as the camera is my #1 priority.
I am going to buy from a locally based store rather than online, as I will be able to hold and test the camera before buying. JB Hi-Fi and Ted's Cameras are the two shops I am considering. There is a cheap option for the camera body and a 35 - 135mm lens from JB Hi-Fi. I am happy to pay the extra for the lens from my own pocket. Please click the links to see the camera and its info.

Final words of convincing:

I just wanted to say thank youif you've decided to give a little to help me achieve a small step towards my goal.
If you're still not convinced, here are a few of the videos I have created from scratch for university and personal projects:

I am very proud of these videos, and I am still improving. All of these were filmed/edited (and some acting) by me. I honestly have such a passion for film making, and I want to build up my profile so I can gain more clients, experience, and to get new challenges to explore and overcome. All I want to do is work for television, hopefully as a DOP or an VFX editor, it's a life goal, but I need to start small, so I can gain the proper knowledge to get me there, and I think this is the perfect way to do it!

And hey, if any of you who donate need something edited (or filmed, if you're in Canberra/Melbourne) hit me up, and I'll be more than happy to help.
