Naval Battlezone 2.0

This is a Minecraft-based fundraiser for the continued development and advancement of the NavyCraft plugin, the plugin behind the famous Naval Battlezone server. My name is Justin Regina (Maximuspayne) and I am the coder of the Navycraft plugin and the designer of the Naval Battlezone server.  I am teaming up again with premejo, the Naval Battlezone server operator and administrator, as well as the Naval Clash team. This project will also focus on working towards a public release version of NavyCraft as well for other server operators to apply to their server.

The first part of this will be an introduction of what Naval Battlezone is. Those of you already familiar with Naval Battlezone may want to scroll down to the section that says "What is the fundraiser going towards?"

Naval Battlezone (NBZ) was a Minecraft bukkit server that started in 2011, and was built around the Navycraft plugin. Navycraft was a fork of the then abandoned Movecraft 2 code. The server's primary feature was the ability to build almost any vehicle of your choice (ship, airplane, submarine, or tank) , and then to be able to actually able to move them around the world.

You can access the Naval Battlezone website here...

The blocks in the vehicles don't move smoothly through space, but instead they change their position in steps. The plugin allowed for a lot of detail and many features on the server, the following is a short list of the unique features of NBZ...

* Ability to custom build, drive, and fight with ships, submarines, airplanes, helicopters, and tanks (other vehicles possible).

* Vehicle weapons including cannons (with double and triple barrel variants), torpedoes, depth charges, bombs, and Anti-Aircraft guns.

* Detailed vehicle equipment available through the use of customized signs. Signs could work as a functioning radar, sonar, radio, submarine diving controls, helm readouts, and more.

* Custom Blocks and Textures. Many of the Minecraft blocks have been repurposed (armor blocks, barrel blocks, etc) some with custom uses and values like weight. You can see the results of the NavyCraft resource pack in our screenshots and videos.

* Physics. Vehicles exhibit momentum in their movement and mimic their real life counterparts. Buoyancy is modeled in ships and submarines. Ships can sink if they dip too low in the water or take too much damage. Aircraft have to reach takeoff speed and fall out of the sky after too much damage.

* Shipyard and spawning system. Players got to reserve protected spaces that only they could build in. They could design their vehicle in creative mode in safety. Afterwards, they could then spawn a copy of their vehicle in the main battle world. These spawns would cost in-game economy money.

*Crew and Rank system. Players could team up and be a part of a crew on a vehicle together with a captain as their leader. Destroying enemy vehicles and players would earn rank points and promotions.

What is the fundraiser going towards?

The fundraiser will be going towards renewed development of the NavyCraft plugin.

Note that NavyCraft plugin has already been publicly released (you can find it a couple of places on GitHub ) and is available. But the plugin is unfortunately not in a configurable state, the plugin has always been developed in an experimental state and is heavily coded to work specifically for Naval Battlezone. One of the current major programming goals (that has already started) is to correct this and to make NavyCraft a plugin that more server operators are easily able to apply to their server and to allow a variety of configurations as well. We want to see what other servers will be able to achieve with our plugin.  For example, on your survival server we want you to be able to add the plugin, and configure it so that you can build only wooden sailing ships for your survival world, which you can then use to help you explore, transport goods, and colonize your world. Or perhaps you want a world with airships, or a space ship world.

For the servers that utilize our plugin, we are also thinking of the possiblity of creating a sort of "network" for NavyCraft servers. Players will be able to log into the NBZ Shipyard and view examples, chat with other designers, and design and save their vehicle to schematic. And then through the use of plugins, a player can use a command or sign that switches them to an entirely different, custom player server on our "network", where they will be able to spawn their schematic into that server from our centralized schematic server.

After these primary upgrades, we hope to make other fixes and improvements to the plugin as well. Including adding more functional blocks, and I also want to put more work into updating our NavyCraft resource pack with better high definition textures and customized sound effects.

Please note that these features are of course preliminary and may be subject to change over time as the project develops. I want to thank you for taking the time to read our vision for a new future for the NavyCraft plugin. We believe that it was a great plugin, and with at least one more big push, we can get it into a state where we can involve the community a lot more. We were always blown away by some of the awesome creations players would make on our server, and we are excited to see what kind of ideas and servers might develop from this work.
