Navaiah's Transplant Fund

Donation protected
Navaiah is the most amazing 13 year old girl you will ever

meet. Looking at her you may think that

she is a typical "tween" but a few things make her extra special. She was born with a birth defect called

Gastroschisis causing her to have multiple surgeries before at

the age of 7 months her family was told that she would need a Small Bowel/Liver

Transplant. After being on the

Transplant list for 7 months she received her organs on Feb 3, 2002. Since then she has grown up living with a

feeding tube, dietary restrictions, multiple hospital stays, surgeries and

physical limitations but that hasn't stopped Navaiah from trying to live a somewhat "normal" life.

In January 2011 her

health took a big turn when she had emergency surgery due to a bowel

obstruction which caused her to lose a good amount of her transplanted

organ. Along with this set back and a

severe rejection in 2004, Navaiah has spent most of the past 3 years in and out

of the hospital in both CT and DC with hardly anytime home with her family.

She was re listed a year ago for a second small bowel transplant with her team at Georgetown University in Washington, DC over a year ago and just received her second chance at life on December 5th! There is still a long road ahead of her with recovery and this will cause a huge financial strain on her family as Mom (Kailani) will be out of work for an undetermined amount of time and there will be a lot of traveling back and fourth between CT and DC along with many other medical related expenses.
