Naturally Literate is a booklet meant to inspire beginning naturalists to get to know their natural environment just a little bit better. For each category of animals and plants (Birds, Amphibians & Reptiles, Flowers, Insects, Trees, Mammals, Fish), Vermont naturlists have provided a list of the 10-20 species that they believe a "naturally literate" person should be able to identify and name. My hope is that by recognizing and naming local plants and animals, people will feel more connected to their part of the world.
As an elementary teacher, I would like to get these booklets into the hands of entering kindergarteners. With this money from Go Fund Me, I would be able to publish these booklets and start getting them out to schools. If this is successful, I will work to spread these booklets far and near. I feel that by getting kids to connect to their world, I will be doing my job as an educator. When kids connect to their world, they care about it and are more likely to make decisions that help create a better planet for everyone.
