Nathan Jones  PORTLAND, OR
In 2017 I will embark on a race around the planet by bicycle.   I'll be cycling over 18,000 miles (29,000 km) over a period of three to four months at a racing pace.  This will take me across Europe, India, Australia,  New Zealand, and finally Canada, the US, and back to Canada.

This will involve me pedaling on average for 18 hours a day.  I will not have a support vehicle, the only support I will have will be the random trail angels, and those who are fortunate enough to be watching while I ride through.  There will be other forms of support though, mostly family, friends, and great people I have yet to meet but are fascinated by the thrill of global bike racing.

This sort of racing is often referred to as self supported, and to a large part that remains very true.  I will be all out on my own, with little more than my wits for months while I endlessly pour every ounce of my willpower into moving a bike aound the planet.  That self support stops though in the form of the hundreds if not thousands of people willing to help support this crazy endeavor of mine.  That can be anywhere from just watching my progress and relaying it to friends, to meeting me on route and buying a hotel, helping schedule with last minute flights, or helping to box up a bike.  There are endless, countless ways folks can support me without giving any cash.  Just looking on in admiration and being inspired to dream bigger dreams is hugely appreciated.  Life is really, terribly, tragically short, and my motto these days is "If I can't aim for the moon, then I'll aim for around the planet."  I appreciate being able to inspire folks and all the support that I receive in the process, I can't thank people enough who are happy to see me fullfil my dreams and I hope to return the favor.

Alright folks, I made it across India and this thing is only just getting started! Europe took me 21 days, India took only 9 and has left me with a chance to recuperate and further dial logistics for what comes next. As if I needed to up the ante, I now get to race 70 other cyclists across Australia in the inaugaural Indian Pacific Wheel Race. The biggest names in the sport are going to act as rabbits while I chase them across the plains of the continent.

I'll be livestreaming today on my personal fb page hopefully around 10:30AM PST or 5:30PM UTC. Expect a full recap of the insanity that was India. A great country but nonetheless my travels were filled with culture shock, lots of lentils with rice, and of course lots of desert riding.

It's been great so far, there have been MANY trying moments but I keep my head down and keep on chugging. Thanks for the boatloads of support y'all, the messages of excitement and shared stoke combined with relentless enthusiasm is quite helpful, cheers and hope to see you in the stream!

I made it to Athens folks and am now eating and resting at the hotel Airport at roughly the 1/6th point of my race around the world. I'll be livestreaming from my personal FB page at roughly 9AM pacific time or 5 pm for those in continental Europe, y'all in Australia and Asia will have to do the math as I'm a little fuzzy.

Y'all have helped me out a ton and I'm incredibly grateful. If you'd take a sec to invite some of your friends to follow my exploits at https://www.facebook.com/NathanJonesRacesAroundEarth/ Go to the page and you'll see the invite utility somewhere! I suspect I'll have phone service in India, so expect some high quality absurdity broadcast out as I find the time.

It's been amazing so far. Europe has treated me very well. I'm glad I chose to escape through Athens as opposed to somewhere in Turkey. I snuck into the side of the sprawling metropolis this morning without being accosted by traffic, still a few dog chases but those I take in good fun with a few curse words.

I'm going to be out here for a while and I realize folks may forget, dot watch is always fun the first few days and towards the finish. Even the best of dot watchers often get tired after a while, then remember, "oh yeah, they are still out there". "Damn, I'm tired of dot watching" you may think then you remember, "oh yeah, I'm not even riding" I understand and I point this out mostly to laugh at the absurdity of my own endeavor. It's what feels like, an endless ride, the endless summer involving all four seasons and everything they have to bring. I appreciate y'all following along here and there and know ya haven't forgot about me, even though the initial stoke may have worn off! Sooo... long story short today is a good day to do some hyping, tomorrow will be too, and next month, and the month after. It's no surprise that the hummingbird, a symbol of endurance is my power animal. I'll keep flapping my wings as fast as I can, I'm only getting warmed up. Thanks for being a part folks, I'm giving it my all, hope you enjoy from the sidelines.

Also PS I'm going to actually be in a race with other people in Australia in the inaugural Indian Pacific Wheel Race. This race within a race (yes I'm that crazy) is going to be a watershed moment for the world of self supported ultra cycling. The biggest names in the sport are going to be there and I will be forced to do nothing but triple down on my game. Just know that the excitement has only begun as it's gonna get REAL in the next few weeks. Stoke bucket full, see y'all on the flip side.

Dear friends and family. You all have gotten me pretty far in this latest undertaking of mine. I got across Europe for the first time and then came home and did 200 miles a day on Route 66. This allowed to prove two things, one that I'm fast and the other being that I can navigate internationally with ease. My training as it was, is all done. Now I sit with the bike fully built, kitted out, and ready to race around the planet! BUT, I'm still a bit short of my funding goal. Today I am making a big push for anyone to pitch in who hasn't got the chance yet. A huge thanks to all of you for pitching in, I have just one request. If you'd take today to share this link

That would help out a lot, a ton!

My journey officially begins Saturday the 11th at 5:35 in Halifax Nova Scotia. From there I fly to Lisbon and begin pedaling the morning of the 12th. I am beside myself with excitement, I'm in for some stories to say the least.

Once again, a great deal of appreciation towards those who have supported and continue to support. Thanks for helping me believe in my dreams, I hope to return the favor.
