Natasha's Post-Burn Recovery

I’m rebuilding my life after I was burned over 85 percent of my body while trying to save my best friend, but I can’t do it alone. Please consider donating to help cover the cost of living expenses for myself and my family. Prior to my injuries, I was the only source of financial support for my family of five.
On January 7, 2018, I was visiting my best friend, who was battling stage IV cancer. We were chatting in her bedroom when her mother yelled that the house was on fire. I immediately went to my friend to help her escape. I grabbed her hand and tried to lead her outside, but lost consciousness. I don’t remember much from the next several weeks; I was hospitalized and fighting for my life after being severely burned on my face, legs and torso. When I woke up, I was heartbroken and shocked to learn that my friend, who I had grown up with and raised kids with, hadn’t made it out of the house. The doctors said it was a miracle I was still alive. My time in the hospital spanned four months and included more than a dozen surgeries.
By the Grace of God, I am still here today and am in the recovery stage of this tragic incident. I have relearned to walk and am slowly relying less and less on family to get through the day-to-day. I have not been able to work since the accident and have greatly appreciated the support of my community, church, family and friends, but the bills continue to build.
I always was the one to take care of those around me and this transition has been a challenge for all of us. I am asking for help with medical bills, utilities, rent and daily living expenses to fill in the gaps for my family. I truly thank everyone in advance for any help, and I hope to soon give back in my own way by volunteering at the same burn center where I received treatment. I want to inspire other burn victims and let them know that there is hope after recovery.
