Helping Natas fight for his life

$4,560 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 74 people in 6 months
My Nephew was in a horrific car accident. He was hit by a Weber county school bus and is in critical condition. It's going to be a long road ahead, what that road looks like has yet to be determined. He's a strong young man and has a lot fight in him. I'm raising money to help cover the cost of these unexpected medical expenses and to help his mom and dad through this horrendous time. If you can donate please do or even share but most of all pray for Natas!

Hey everyone! It's been about a month since my last update on Natas and so much has happened. He is full of surprises to say the least.
We are still in the process of weaning some medications and figuring out the best options for others. We want to make sure we make the best decision for him. Natas is working with Speech Therapy on his trials (capped trach & food) he's doing great! I found out today that his Therapist wants to have a swallow test done. He is hoping it will be by Friday. If Natas passes the swallow test, they will start getting him on solid foods.
Natas is talking! His humor and personality are very present. He has made his likes and dislikes known. There are some things he that he struggles with...he gets confused, sometimes saying inappropriate things and doesn't understand why he is being cared for. He really wants to come home. He is also having trouble moving his left arm and left leg. His Doctor has told William and I that these are consistent with the Rancho level he is in.
We have an appointment with his Comprehensive Care Doctor in a couple of weeks. She will look at his progress mentally and physically and then decide if she'll give the referral for Inpatient Rehab at Primary's. I'm hoping he'll be ready.

Thank you for your continued love and support!❤

*Update from his mom*
Hey everyone, I know its been a while since my last update on Natas and I apologize. The Holidays weren't the same this year. We were missing a huge part of our lives and our hearts.

The new year has brought some changes our way. Today marks 135 days since the accident. Last Monday William and I had a meeting with the Doctors that are caring for Natas. We talked about the future plan on reducing and weaning his medication. We also talked about where they see Natas heading in his recovery.

Natas has shown us a few new things. He started responding to our questions by hold up 1 finger for a "Yes" and 2 fingers for a "No". He has also given a thumbs up and a thumbs down. We are still working with the Respiratory Therapists and Speech Therapist daily. They are currently doing trials with pudding and applesauce. Introducing these things has to be done very slow. They are watching closely to make sure he does not aspirate.

There are so many things Natas has started doing that we were told he would never be able to do.This week Natas took everyone by surprise...

He spoke his first word... "MOM".

I was in disbelief. I asked his CNA if she heard what I did and She heard it too. My jaw dropped! I climbed on top of his bed and asked him to say it again...he did! Needless to say...I bawled. This time these were tears of complete happiness.

Natas continues to defy the odds. He has definitely shown us to have faith because miracles DO happen! He is living proof of that. He has shown us that he is not done fighting and HIS story is not over. However, We still have a very long road ahead of us. There's still so much healing that needs to be done. We are still hoping he will get strong enough for the Inpatient Rehab at Primary's. Only time will tell.

I cannot express enough how thankful we are for each and everyone of you! Our family, our friends and even members of our community that we have never met have been there for us this entire time.

On behalf of Natas and our family, Thank you so much for your Love, Support AND Prayers. Keep 'em coming... they're working!

Guys! I'm so sorry I haven't posted an update in a long time.. I have no excuse, just life is happening. Things are going pretty well with Natas. He's not healed my any means but he's making progress! They have reduced him down on his medications because he's been stable for a bit and things are starting to happen, really just in this past week, but it's so amazing! He's starting to mimic things we do with our hands, like thumbs up or high five, a nurse even said she pretty sure he flipped her off (chuckle) over all things are moving forward. Natas has been in a trama recovery center where he works with the nurses with rehabilitation doing all sorts of things. They try to get him participating in physical therapy, other therapy, as well, as trech weaning. He's still got the trech but hopefully soon that might come out fingers crossed. He's got an upcoming appointment with an ophthalmologist to check his eyes. There is some nerve damage there but we aren't sure how much, so we are looking forward to learning what he's seeing and the prognosis with that. I'm going to see him on Wednesday so I will get some more pictures and have another update then. It's actually really difficult to get his cool new thumbs up in a picture lol but I'll keep trying. Natas has seen miracles! The fact he's come this far has shown us that prayers work! Please keep him in your continued prayers and now that we deeply appreciate it. We look forward to the day when we can bring him home. The holidays were extremely rough around here and I really hope we can have him home by the next season ❤️ again thank you for your love and support #keepfightingnatas

Natas has been moved to the skilled nursing center. We were hoping that he'd be ready to participate in the rehab program at the hospital but he's not ready yet. We are praying that he'll be ready soon. Keep fighting Natas! You are such a strong boy and we are so proud of you! Keep fighting! #prayingfornaughty
