Naiya's fight against AFM

Donation protected
On Monday September 25 Niaya was admitted to the stollery hospital with loss of function in her right arm. Doctors believe she  she has Acute Flaccid Myelitis . AFM is one of a number of conditions that can result in neurological illness with limb weakness.  Such illness can resut from a variety of causes, including viral infections. It causes nervous system scars and interrupts communication between the nerves in the spinal cord . She has started steroids and the inflammation in her spinal cord is faster then the steroids can work and has lost all function. 4 days in Naiya's lungs collasped and she was placed on high flow oxygen machine to help her breath.  The doctors only know of 3 types of treatment that they can try to see if this can help little naiya.  5day course of steroids which is so powerful it will take 8 - 13 weeks of pills to ween Naiya of the Steroids.  They tried the steroids, it did not help.  The second treatment was a 2 day course of IVIG.  IVIG is usedto treat various autoimmune, infectious, and idiopathic diseases, that didnt work.  The last and only thing the doctors think will help naiya is Plasmapheresis.  They decided to do 5 treatments over the course of 10 days. Plasmapheresis is a method of removing blood plasma from the body by withdrawing blood, separating it into plasma and cells, and transfusing the cells back into the bloodstream. It is performed especially to remove antibodies in treating autoimmune conditions.  This is the last and only thing the doctors know of that may help Naiya.  Naiya's was a bubbly and very friendly 6 year old who loved jumping on her trampoline, playing barbies with her friends and doing crafts.  All at which she is now unable to do.  Her family live has been put on hold and her mother has  had to close down her bussiness so she can stay beside naiya.  No 6 year old should have to fight this fight alone.  Naiya's mom ran a full dayhome with a waiting list and all that has had to stop due to the sudden illness naiya has to fight. Her mother can not take care of the children she has had in her dayhome because she needs to be by naiyas side.  The doctors can not put a timeline on the recovery process because AFM is so rare and every child and case is diffrent.  they do say for every day in the Pediatric Intensive care is at least 4 days in rehabilitation.  Naiya has spent 3 and a half weeks in Pediatric intensive care and another 2 weeks in the Stollery.    Please help naiya and her mom and her 2 brothers make end's meet while they care for naiya. Your donations will allow Naiya's mom to stay beside Naiya as she goes through intense Rehabilitation at the Glenrose.  AFM has left Naiya paralyzed and unable to walk or use her hands.  Her battle is still ongoing and being able to be with Naiya and know that the bills are still being paid and her other sons are taken care of while Naiya's mom lives with naiya at the glenrose, will take a big burden of this little family.  Every pennie counts, and naiya and her family willbe greatly appreciated!
